Wider Tires?
Getting a set of HRE P40s in 19 inch, but am wondering if it is advisable to keep the 245 and 265 width? Not interested in cosmetics, as the 265 looks wide.
Thanks |

List the exact wheel sizes and offset, and I can give the best fitting tire recommendation front and rear. BTW: If you aren't concerned with cosmetics...why did you buy the P40's?

Lol.. might be thread jacking but I am having a similar issue and need some help on tire choice. Switching my tires out from my current setup. Wheels are 19x9 and 19x10 with ET20 all around. Would I rub if I switch the fronts to 255/35/19? I want to get as much wheel protection as possible. I'm lowered on eibachs - thinking of going 285/35/19 on the rears.
Thanks for your help |

But I wouldn't go 285/35/19 on the rear... That's a rolling diameter of almost 27". 275/35/19 will give you plenty of sidewall, while staying closer to the stock 26.3" rolling diameter.

I'd go 285/35/19. I've seen it at Bimmerfest w/ M3's dropped w/ H&R's and it looks great.

Sorry. I meant I am not looking to widen the rear footprint for cosmetic purposes. I love wide rubber, but not if there is a performance sacrifice. I definitely am concerned with cosmetics. Aside from wanting to jettison the OEM 19s, I installed the Remus Sport mufflers. Other than that, I am quite pleased by the M3 styling.

Thanks for the advice and offer to help. I clearly need a little guidance here. Didn't know they were wider than stock. I'll look into the narrowest sixes and revert.

Since I need to get new tires, what is the easiest way to source both? Our good friends at Tire Rack don't carry HRE, so I would be happy to give the business to a board member who sells these gateway products.
Thanks. |

I am using 245/35/19s fronts and 285/30/19s rears no issue at all, even on track days. Great grip all around especially on the track.

In that case can anyone with experience on 245/35 fronts & 285/30 rears enlighten me on the following: 1. is 285 borderline on the 19" OEM rear rims & does that have a negative effect on tyre performance in anyway? 2. how is the balance of the car affected by staying stock in the front and increasing by 2 sizes (20mm) the rears? Is the balance neutralised or is there notable understeer? I am mostly interested in track handling, or handling in good quality road surfaces. 3. given that the 285/30 rears yields an overall wheel diameter which is smaller by 35mm (33.76cm versus the OEM 33.41cm wheel diameter), how does this affect (i) top speed, and (ii) wheel torque. Do you get the sense that the higher wheel torque counter-balances / nullifies the adverse effect of increased weight? |

I have the 19" p40s. The wheels are 9" fronts and 10.5" rears. I am running 265/30 fronts and 305/30 rears with no rubbing issues at all.
I also recommend WheelSTO & IND. I have purchased from both with great results! |
