Mercedes SL63 AMG revealed
The Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG features the familiar M157 twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 engine that produces 529bhp (394 kW / 536 PS). Thanks to the all-aluminum bodyshell and assorted magnesium components the SL's body now weighs 242 pounds (110 kg) lighter than its steel bodied predecessor. The result is a vehicle that achieves greater performance running 0-62mph in 4.3 seconds (4.2 seconds with the AMG Performance Pack) and 30 percent combined fuel consumption savings with 28.5mpg and CO2 emissions at 231g/km compared to 328g/km for the previous generation.

Those taillights still annoy the shit out of me...I was expecting so much more from this model. Don't feel a thing when I see this. It's just so predictable. That front end feels less aggressive than the previous gen, and why the fuck do they use such cheap-ass looking LEDs in the foglight housings.
Mercedes, am disappoint.

I like the stronger side profile and interior, but rest is a lazy attempt for a next-gen model. I still can't get over the headlights because of the random shape and eyebrows. Taillights look light something Korean. LED fogs are so long and nearly as big as the intakes. Not good. The funny thing is I know I'll like it on the road it's still the SL, but it's just disappointing and if I'm honest I prefer the previous SL (even the pre-facelift).

The SL is one of my favorite cars but I think they butchered the design this time around. The interior looks a little too industrial as well.

I'm really not into Mercedes current design language. The previous cars have a much more classic look and feel to them. And the pedestrian safe nose on this one makes it look odd overall. That new regulation is destroying a lot of potentially nice looking cars; it's difficult to design around a flat pig nose.
But I have a feeling it will look better in person. Overall, it'll probably have some decent street presence. |
