New Owner saying Hi
Hi everyone, purchased a new M3 yesterday, my first. This will be my third BMW had 2 3 series and 1 5 series. I was looking to purchase either an S4 or 335is but when I walked into the local BMW dealer I saw this sad little 2009 Silverstone coupe sitting there looking for a new home. It was new (10 miles on the odo) untitled and a deal that I could not refuse. After a few hours of negotiations I walked away with an M3 for less than I was going to pay for the 335is. I traded in my 2007 Cayman S so it was kind of a bittersweet day but my fiance just could not get into the Cayman S, it was just too small and raw for her. She is a bigtime BMW girl so she just loves the M3 as do I. I am going to get busy searching the site for info but judging by the number of posts regarding the DCT I hope I did not make a mistake purchasing it. I have read the manual but still an not clear on a few issues especially the slow speed assist and clutch wear in heavy slow traffic; in drive mode will this wear out the clutches? I will post some pictures when I pick it up and I can't do that until next week. Anyway, just wanted to say cheers, looking forward to a great BMW experience and making some new friends on the site.

Congrats! You'll absolutely love it. As for DCT I was hesitant at first getting it as well but the clutches in the DCT are supposed to be a lifetime item... If you believe it or not welllll... However I think after driving the DCT for a little while you'll learn in rush hour traffic or the like it's not bad at all and the slow move assist is a great feature but will take you a few weeks to get used to if you're used to manual cars or even SMG (my friend's 08 e60 M5 doesn't have this feature).
Best of luck to you and welcome!

Congratulations, but shouldn't that be your fourth BMW? You mentioned that you had 2 3-Series and 1 5-Series.

OP: Just keep in mind that there's no perfect transmission, and that there's no right or wrong in choosing the transmission type.
It's very good to know that you and your wife are both happy about getting into an M3. I can understand how one would miss having a Cayman S, but having the M3 is like having the perfect balance of performance & practicality. Don't look back, and enjoy! |

Welcome! The Cayman is a GREAT car, and I'd love to have one as a track car, but as a DD you made an excellent choice! the M3 is also a mighty fine track car if you are so inclined
