Question

Question I have for track gurus out there...We see no new change to the steering like the E46 Competition Package did...do you feel this is because with the new wider track & lowing of the Competition Package, that the steering inadvertedly also is positively effected, thus not having to change steering ratios?

Can anyone speculate as to how the competition pkg will change the ride of the M3? Is this something that would appeal more to the track guys?

That's pretty strange, then. So, in Europe, 7MA includes EDC. But, in the USA, we have ZCP which consists of 7MA and 223 EDC. Or am I misreading the ordering guide?

Besides, I think your point on the DSC remapping being merely a necessity to accomodate to the new suspension layout rather than an added feature does make sense either. This would also explain why this isn't an advertised feature in the German pricelist.
So, Germans are too smart to fall for BMW-NA-style marketing-ese.

The 19" wheels alone will change the ride compared to the standard 18"s. I'm guessing that the 10mm ride height reduction is going to come at some price in ride comfort as well. Unless you want/need that last 5% or so of handling capability you might want to pass. I did and I went ahead and took delivery of my 2010.

I drove through downtown LA yesterday and I can imagine what it would have been like. Yes, while I want M3 performance I don't want it at any cost including comfort. In my case the car will never see the track so I think of it as more of a GT.

Just get a 335. It's a much better daily driver.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I wonder if I can get the dealer to flash the new EDC program??
If you are a good friend of the SA and the head mechanic, I'll bet they would do the flashing. I'm going to try to have the springs done and the re-flashing done. The bulk of the $2500 price for the competition package, is the wheels. It'll be impossible to tell the difference in the wheels.

Still very curious about the answer to the above question.

Also, very curious about how the pricing will be sorted out. In the ordering guide both ZCP and ZTP list EDC as included. Obviously they can't equip the same thing twice. So in theory, based on the order guide, ZCP/ZTP should be cheaper when specc'd in tandem.

I would guess at least $3k-$3.5k.

When can we expect 2011 cars on the lot here in the states? Now this is a hard decision...2010 or a 2011...the competition package sounds like it would be worth it just for the wheels alone

Well you can't order a 2010 anymore so it's either what dealers have on their lots or order a 2011.

Agreed.

Additionally, with the 359M style there's an OEM rim that looks good to my eyes; so good in fact that it may spare me having to go aftermarket.

An anonymous source (whom I consider reliable) has told me that indeed the "sport mapping for EDC/DSC" is just marketing. So, while a ZCP equipped M3 will have a slightly different dynamics due to the lower suspension and wider track, EDC and DSC will be otherwise functionally identical to a non-ZCP M3.

Again, kudos to earlier posters who correctly interpreted this information from the get-go.

I feel the same about the current 19s. Sure, lots of M3s have them but they look soooooo good. I guess I'd have to see the new ones on an E90 before I couls say conclusively though.

That would be great news since it would be less money out of my pocket!

Holy crap! That's a bombshell. I would have thought it would at least be tweaked for the track and ride height changes.

Probably won't work because the system is set up to prevent coding the car with software modules that are not applicable. A ZCP module for a non-ZCP equipped car would be prevented because it doesn't line up with the vehicle order as built. You might be able to get a third-party tuning shop to do it but a trip to the dealership to code something else might prove interesting. Don't know.

Why would there be a ZCP module? ZCP doesn't have anything software related that's not already available in other packages. Also, EDC is available in ZTP so I can't see why it wouldn't take. Weird.

Well I suppose we will have to wait and see if this is true, but I reckon that when equipped with CUP+ the car will perform even better than before.
