I'm also shit at fast gear changes so the DCT works for me.

I remember old the days in the back seat, my sister and I beating the crap out of each other. My mother would do a brake check and we would both nail the front bench seat LOL

(Mom's rule - No seats belts if you rode in the back of the car in those days.)

i wanted a 6 speed, but my dealership had a hard time finding one as did i. I knew the DCT was a great tranny, but i care more about having fun. I don't have a 9-5 job, and dont get caught in rush hour traffic either.

I really didn't have time to wait to order a M3 with manual. So i decided to try this DCT, and i love it. I think it makes the engine even sound better, how fast it shift. I would never get a normal auto, double clutch is a lot better. the DCT is a performance option in my eyes.

Dct is technically better, yes.

Nothing replaces the physical feeling and satisfaction of putting each gear in place, downshifting, all by yourself with a clutch.

It just feels good. Is it slower? Yes, but more involving on the street for me.

Bought my 6mt in 08 - was scared of how much it would cost to fix or replace the dct out of warranty.

Drove 2008 6MT E90 M3 for 2 years, felt that the motor is fantastic, but the MT in this car is... ok at best (S2k's MT is much better).

Then, had a chance to drive a DCT M3 at a BMWNA M Tour (they were traveling thru US with a bunch of DCT M3's) and, wow, great tranny worthy of being mated to S65/S85. Had to have it.

Is this enough to get a DCT ?
And i know...i will get now the 6 MT guy's on my neck ...
All true.
6 speed is more fun.
I've had both and would get another DCT if I was to buy a third e90.
BTW, My DCT was a POS, and there are plenty of other old timers on this forum that had POS DCTs. Good luck.

Why are some of you automatic/dct owners ashamed of calling it an automatic?

The fact is there is either manual or automatic, regardless if BMW states it's a dct/trans automobile. This is known and not something new.

automatic/dct = 2 pedals
6mt = 3 pedals

There is no confusion here.

Now to answer the OP question; I love automatics (not ashamed to say it) in terms of an SUV or van. They are awesome for long 10 hour+ drives in traffic and bad weather VS a 6 speed manual.

Now if I want a true sports car or something to have fun in, it must have 3 pedals and be a true manual car and I would love to have no power-steering. My older 92 NSX did not have it and I loved it.

American society has turned to technology and lazy American drivers who refuse (more on the lines of afraid to learn as they get older) to learn how to drive a standard automobile. Nothing wrong with that but just stating whats known.

I understand this is not MOST but a lot of folks I have asked straight out and they tell me they never learned how to drive a standard car. So be it. Everyone can do what they want.

So for me and my driving needs/wants I use a manual transmission for weekends and fun and an automatic for going to and from work and traveling long distances.

I partially disagree on the S2000 and was an owner of a heavily modified S2000 for 5 years.
The S2000 had a second gear grind that even if you shifted perfectly would grind every month or so. Not all the time but once in a while. Wasn't really an issue and there were ways around it. It was far from perfect though.

I do agree with the fact that the S2000 clutch felt heavier than the M3. Hell my Z4MC felt heavier. I got into the M3 and was like "what a weak piece of shit", but adapted and got use to it.

i own a manual but i just want to try an mdct on a track for maybe 3 laps - ive tried the 135i dct on track and it wasn't too much fun - i want to feel the neck snapping shifts in the m3! and the easiness of just steering

as a daily dct is > I think. I had 6 speed m3 and decided to get a daily cuz it was too much of a hassle. so dct = precision and daily drivability. 6 speed = pure fun and involvement.. just my opinion
