EDC vs non EDC, and ZTP vs no ZTP

I've looked through the EDC vs non EDC threads but haven't seen much helpful content. Anyone driven both cars extensively? Is EDC a must-have?

Also ZTP... Is that a must have option? What is not included without it?

I want to get a sedan and was considering getting a stripped down one without all the extra stuff. I also plan to do some autocrossing so I wonder if the EDC is a must there as well.

FYI I've done some forum searches but was unable to find some really cohesive threads on the differences. If you know of one or two let me know by posting them here. Thanks!

I have not driven a non-EDC car, but I kept the settings as they would come in a non-EDC car for the the first half of the ride and then played with the settings.

It is a nice suspension, but clearly not a must have. My MB S430 had a suspension that could be changed between the three settings also. I used it, but would not have been lost without.

As far as ZTP goes...I have decided that I am not going to order. For me, I really do not need NAV as I have the majority of my life in NE Ohio and can get almost anywhere. In addition, I have not found nav to be all that useful when I did use it. I posted an article from the WSJ in a previous thread.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130465

The other stuff that ZTP gives doesn't really interest me with one exception. I would like the premium stereo, but it requires NAV or ZTP. So, I will go without and just go aftermarket for the stereo.

FWIW I plan on tracking at http://www.nelsonledges.com/

so for me...its a STRIPPER FTW!

I'm with you on the stereo. Is the stock stereo the same as the upgraded stereo in the 335?

Seems like a stripped down car would almost be better. Less distractions. I'd probably get BMW ASSist just because of bluetooth. Also the ipod adapter.

I do wonder though if the absence of ZTP and EDC would ruin resale value...

I'm definitely passing on the EDC, upgraded stereo, leather, etc. I'm only opting for NAV and 19" wheels.

Any new input from people who've driven both?

From the threads I've read, the base stereo of the e92 M3 is worse than the upgraded stereo of the 335 but equal to the HK stereo in the e46 M3s

stripped sedan is $54,575 MSRP. Actually, not a bad price.

I'll be passing on ZTP also but I'm still considering EDC. I have driven one with EDC and ZTP and could definitely live without both. I'm intrigued by the active settings of EDC (normal and comfort) and I'm waiting to hear from owners with more seat time of the merits of sport mode on a smooth track.

Thanks for that insight. The HK in my ///M3 satisfied my audiophile needs, so if the base stereo in the new ///M is comparable to (...if not better than) the HK, I feel even better about not opting for the upgraded system.

IMO ZTP is a must have. EDC makes a huge difference but you can get PSS10's or KW V3's that do a "similar" job in terms of damper adjustability. i think ZTP is a must for the M drive at least, i consider EDC almost a must. If i am asked to name 3-5 things that i love about the car and make it special and differentiate it from any other car EDC would be one of them for sure

Can you please elaborate? Maybe I am not understanding the M drive feature...because I do not think that I will be missing much without ZTP or M Drive...will a non-ZTP get around the track slower than a ZTP???

Agree (somewhat)...but can be ordered stand alone without the all of the other crap...

There seems to be a committed minority of people that are not buying into all of the features of ZTP..namely NAV, because some of us live in very familiar geographies and know where we are going... or haven't found NAV to be very helpful

I do really want a kick-ass stereo...but the AM will fill that need for me...the plans are in the works..

BTW Mantis...your car looks GREAT...I have been admiring from afar

thanks for the compliments on the car! i naturally get lost all the time so navi is a must for me + i was so sad for not having comfort access forever in my 335. now that i have it im still very impressed, i cant get over it. so those 2 + edc + M drive = a great package

I would highly suggest you go to the dealer to try it out yourself. Though it might be hard to find a non upgraded stereo m3.

I've tried, but all of them have the upgraded stereo. The stereo is low on my priority list. .......as are most of the options. The only options that I care about are NAV, rear/side sunshades and 19's (..and I'm even starting to reconsider those in favor of the 18's). I have been sold on the speed cloth ever since I purchased cloth/leather seats in my E46 ///M3. There isn't much that I really care about in terms of options.

Not likely. It depends on the track and driver I guess though. Supposedly though, EDC can have an effect on lap times in that the active suspension is actually faster than the non-active setup.

Don't forget you can still get EDC without ZTP. I wouldn't think there would be much difference ZTP or without if both cars had EDC (providing it is faster than the non-EDC).

Right, that's what I was getting at, though I failed to make it clear.
