If your neighbor is not a car guy, they will be seriously offended. If they are, they will thank you.

My neighbor has a Maserati sport. We simply admire each other's commuting noises and get on with life.

I assume they arent. I just moved in. It looks like two or three women. A late 90s Grand Cherokee, a minivan, and a Grand Am.

The guy further down in the complex has a nice Z4, a crotch rocket, and a beautiful Turino. I should have moved below him.

Maybe once they hear the sound of a modded M3 they will become car people too!

If I got a Gintani or AA, would starting and idling the car be too loud for the unit above? I know that when I stay at my parent's house, my dad's Z06 with stock exhaust (butterfly valve fuse removed) can be heard and felt throughout the entire place (stone and 2x6 construction with sound insulation in every wall)... so I can only imagine what a loud car would sound like through one apartment floor.

Input and or experiences would be appreciated.

if i got an AA exhaust is it really that noticeable? Would a regular person notice if 2 m3's drove past or just started next to him in a parking lot...one stock...one with AA exhaust...would the guy really tell oh wow that one sounded aftermarket???

i don't want something too noisy or too quiet...i want the sound on high end but i also don't want to spend money and have it be fractionally different from stock. Cruising i want it to sound almost stock maybe a different tone but no louder DB

Supposedly the engine runs lean to warm up the cats on a cold start.

yup....cat warm up cycle to lower emissions to acceptable levels quicker

The AA tune removes this to smoothen things out... it's tempting because my AA exhaust rattles the hell out of my car on cold starts

not exactly on topic, but ive also noticed that just a catback exhaust without a tune seems to hurt low-end torque (in favour of more top end punch) and fuel economy. I suspect a full exhaust and a tune would yield better than stock power througout the rpm band and at least stock if not better fuel economy, anyone else notice this? thoughts?

I have AA and a "regular" person would definitely notice that the AA is aftermarket if placed side-by-side with OEM exhaust.

What a coincidence! I was getting nervous and thinking that one of my neighbors would place road spikes right outside my garage where I reverse out.

It's just that I feel like all my neighbors really hate me because of how loud my exhaust is.....And they may take revenge one day...

+1 on the AA tune no loud cold start in the morning I have Remus Race exhaust with AA X-pipe Catless. I would wake up the block if it was not for my AA tune. My next door neighbor is a cop its a good thing I am really good friends with him . He has two small kids and my wife takes care of them everynow and then . There is a guy on my block with a Vette that has Borola exhaust you can aways tell when he is going to work at 5:00 a.m. I try to take is really slow and easy when I go to work in the morning. Well OP if you are going to get a exhaust don't get Remus Race its already loud straight out the box. Remus Sport would be the route to go not to loud and it sounds and looks good .

The only time I ever close mine is if I'm leaving the house before 7am

I got a letter from the homeowner's association about my car being too loud. "While we respect the owner's right to modify their cars, it seems as though they make as much noise as possible" I coast through in low 3rd. They don't know what noise is...

You'd be surprised at how many girls like the sound of a great exhaust. Don't let those boring cars of theirs fool you, inside of them may be a woman who strives to be released from the boredom of driving a run of the mill car. YOU MAY CHANGE THEIR LIVES.
