Extended warranty recommendation

I have seen quite a few extended warranty threads pop up recently and wanted to share my experience.

I have an 09 e92 with a production date of 11/27/09. I was coming up on 50,000 miles quickly and decided to get the powertrain plus warranty just to cover the engine & transmission in case anything goes wrong, but mostly for peace of mind. I got quotes from all the local dealers and they were outrageous and they weren't willing to negotiate with me.

I decided to contact Steve Thomas BMW after searching the forums. I did almost all of the contact via email and they gave me a great price, much lower than the local dealers. So if you're on the fence about getting an extended warranty I suggest that you contact them just to get some pricing, I was pleasantly surprised. PM me if you'd like the person I was in contact with.

Thanks. I shopped around as well and got the same warranty. Steve Thomas gave me a great deal as well but I had to opt for Pacific BMW as they gave me a even better deal

Same story here. Had to go to my local dealership to get the key reading printout in order to get the warranty from Steve Thomas.

The SA asked me why I needed it and I told him to get the extended warranty. He asked why I wasn't just getting it there and I said because this other place was significantly cheaper. He said well BMW sets the prices and they aren't negotiable and blah blah. I just loled and said ok and got hooked up through Steve Thomas.

I gave my local dealership the same option but they are so arrogant, they didn't want to budge from their rip-off price

Quick question, once you get the warranty with STBMW, can you have the car serviced at ANY other dealership w/ service dept?

I am not shopping for extended warranty right now, but would be good info to know.

BMW Extended Warranty cost is definitely negotiatable. Different dealers will quote different prices. Who knows how much it actually costs the dealer.

When I was buying my car, they kept pushing it. I said I didn't want it and it was too expensive. Then they kept dropping the price until I said ok.

Yes the warranty is from BMW and not from any particular dealer. you can get it fixed from any BMW dealer in the country.

For an 08 6MT E90:

6 year/100k miles in California. I believe out of state they get different rates. Also, out of California dealers can't sell warranties for California cars.

$3500 powertrain plus
$5000 gold
$7000 platnum

I paid a "discounted rate" (still inflated, I'm sure) of $3240 for a slight inconvenience factor. I had an appointment with the dealership's finance office (this had to be done in-house), and they needed to read my key. Problem was, their frickin system was down, and they couldn't just check my mileage on the car. I guess they needed to check for any current fault codes or some other b.s. I had to go back 2 days later.

In any case, if you read my post today about my tranny being replaced 6 weeks after buying my warranty, you might agree that $3200 or $3500 is still a bargain, should something large go bad. *IF anyone doesn't want to drop the cash up front, they do offer some payment deal, which I didn't accept, but it's there, if you ask.

Shelly BMW, Buena Park, So Cal is where I bought my car & the warranty.

that's one high class hooker lol

I don't have many additional options (i-drive, navi, etc) so I didn't even consider the platinum. When it comes to power steering & AC systems I think I can at least try the repair myself or take it to a reputable local shop if I couldn't. I opted for the powertrain plus mainly because of the blown engine stories I hear on the forum and because I have a DCT.

These cars are pretty bulletproof. My 2 cents is that the extended warranty is not worth it for the price they want for the M3. My dealer wouldn't budge at all. 60K miles and no issues on the car to date.

What's different between:
Powertrain plus
Gold
Platnum

and... please post best price and name of dealership if you got better deal than:
$3500(powertrain plus) /$5000 (gold) / $7000 (platnum)

My warranty is running out soon so this will be great help for me and other 08-10 guys.
Thanks in advance! (gotta love this forum!)

Most will not like to post the price openly in a public forum. Besides, the rate may be different as it's dependent on year/mileage. That being said $3500 for Power Train is way too high. Contact Pacific or Thomas and you will be quoted a pretty competitive price. If you want to know what I paid and who I bought it from, just pm me.
