M3 versus Hyundai Genesis
Been thinking about this for a couple of days, ever since I last saw a commercial for the Genesis where they keep touting its 0 to 60 rate. I know the Genesis comes with a V8, but I think the M3 would still thrash it. Would like to see this upstart lux/performance car go against an established competitor since I think the plan is to spin Genesis off into its own luxury brand.
Pretty sure I know the answer, but has anyone out there driven a Genesis?

You mean Sedan? or Coupe? Coupe is not avail with V8.
But no matter what... I drove both Genesis Coupe and Sedan... Far from being "sporty" and "luxurious" as M3. The both car cost fractions of M3.....so cant even compare much. |

That's the Genesis Coupe you have pictured and it's only available in either a 2.0 Turbo 4-cylinder or 3.8 V6. The 0-60 times are nowhere near the M3, unless of course you upgrade the engines! I believe the Genesis Coupe 2.0 turbo is the same engine as the Mitsu-Evo. The G-coupe guys have been getting some crazy numbers with their aftermarket mods. I think you get a lot for your money (brembos, LSD, etc) stock, but I wouldn't give up my M3, nothing against the hyundai/genesis brand, just love my car too much.
I actually drove a red 2.0T track last weekend. The car has a delayed shift between 2nd and 3rd, and when you floor it in 2nd or 3rd can't remember, it takes a while for the car to speed up, then again I'm used to 414hp. Other than that the car was smooth. If you have passengers in the back seat taller than 5'7 their heads will hit the roof. Everything else was pretty nice. I've heard a lot of good things about the Genesis, and the commercials just got me thinking. Will be interesting if the brand does get spun off to a smaller niche, luxury/performance brand. Let's face it, the M3 blows it out of the water, but I do think its cool how hard the Genesis is trying.

There are huge marketing hype on Geneis Coupe, esp on 2.0T...
The blocks are same as Lancer RallyArt. Those block will not support much HP as EVO. Also stock turbos are really small to make significant power. We drove it, it felt like 150hp car. To make this car as fast as 370Z around track, I can see at least $10k invested on the car to be same par lap time.... There are also clutch delay valve, ESP kicks in super fast... If you drive it, you definitly feel that this is NO SPORTS CAR by any means. Doesn't have that wooomp! from similar powered turbo engines like VW's 2.0T and ect. We are very disappointed by powerlevel of 2.0T, other than that we liked overall package. |

I've test driven the Genesis sedan w/ the V8, and I was VERY impressed. It's not intended to compete w/ the M3, and would be a poor substitute for one. It seems like a good alternative to a big Lexus sedan, though.

I'm not sure if I agree that it looks better than an Enzo. Ferraris have such distinctive styling in my opinion, and looking at a Genesis the styling doesn't say individual to me as nice as it is. @genro757 lol.
