Never seen this track before - second half with all those sweeping turns looks fun. Interesting suspension set up - did the Bilstein improve grip on the rear compared to stock EDC?

Videos.

1:55.68 and 1:55:69. On the slower lap I was 0.6 seconds faster through the esses (had a horrible sweeper as you can see on my pb lap), predictive had 1:55:13 and dropping coming into sunset. And then of course, when you look at predictive screen, you botch it up! Could have been a photo finish in terms of lap times with redpriest!

Back to the drawing board for next event at buttonwillow. Have to piece these two lap times together to get into 54s that I think is easily there.

Wow, those tires are the real deal. Good driving and nice work you guys! redpriest

How much faster are these tires vs an NT01?

Anyway, in looking at the AIM data, NONE of my fastest sectors of the day came from this lap. All the fastest sectors came from other laps done later. (I ran 8 laps in the 1:48's that day.) Anyway, I've driven the pieces for a mid-1:47's. As usual, it's just a matter of seat time and building more consistency to do it in one lap. I'm not in a hurry. As this is my hobby, I am content to take my time. Keeps me interested.

I have some other thoughts and comments that I'll post in my build thread soon.

My virtual splits say I could do ~1:53 in these tires. It's at least 2-3 seconds faster.

hehe When I'm trying to go fast, I never have the AIM on the Predictive Lap Time screen. I can't be looking over at that damn thing every two seconds! My friend always looks at it. He can tell you at various points on the track how a lap is going. I don't know where he finds the time to be studying that screen! I'm concentrating on other stuff---LIKE DRIVING!!

The endless right hander on the back side of the track is called "the peanut" and it's a snoooooozer.

The Bilstein DampTronics dampers are a huge improvement in both ride quality and putting traction down, even with just the rear shocks!

Front struts are on back order, seemingly forever.

Went to Chuckwalla (Clockwise) with Speed Ventures. Dang it's getting hot out there already.....It was in the mid-90's. Yuck. At the end of the two laps in the video you can see the Oil Temp needle is climbing quite high.....I was really fighting the oil temps in the afternoon when the heat reached it's peak....had to break out the cool shirt......

Anyway, had a couple decent laps out there and set a new personal best. I learned a lot more about the track on this visit and I'm eager to go back----buuuut I'll probably stay away until it cools down.

2009 E90 M3 DCT
Track/course: Chuckwalla CW
Best Lap Time: 1:54.97 (transponder)
Brakes: AP Racing - Cobalt Friction XR2 front/XR3 rear
Tires: Yes.
Suspension: JRZ RS Pro
Other mods: VF620, car is gutted with full roll cage (Racewerkz), APR 67" GT-250 wing, carbon lip, APR front splitter, AJ Hartmann Canards, RD Sport front sway bar, Macht Schnell solid subframe bushings, OS Giken Super Lock diff, Akrapovic X-Pipe, exhaust: straight through with resonators, do88 DCT cooler, Recaro Pro Racer halo seat, DSC-off

Video shows two contiguous laps: 1:55.4, 1:54.9 (had to pass a Miata on the 55 lap----fairly clean pass)

(Rented one of those new cabins at the track. Really nice! Although dinner would be a bit of a problem if you're there 2 days (I only did 1 day).....you would get off the track go back to your room and......a good dinner is 50+ miles away? I don't know.....showing up with a big bag of groceries and cooking my own dinner in a track cabin on a mini electric stove top is.....not exactly my idea of chillin'....I don't own a mini BBQ grill, and I don't plan on getting one. I see people bringing grills to the track and that just does not interest me......hehe the logistics surrounding a visit to Chuckwalla are always a compromise one way or another......)

did they just open the cabins? i saw something a while back, but i didn't think they were open for some reason. when i make it out there, i'll have to do that. thats the most difficult part of getting out to chuckwalla and buttonwillow for me, nearby lodging sucks. if we're ever out there the same day, i'll bring a few extra beers and wieners for ya.

I don't know the date they opened, but I believe it's been a few months. I have to admit it is QUITE nice waking up at a race track with zero commute in the morning. My usual routine for local tracks is either a 60, 85 or 130 mile drive in the morning. (Chuckwalla is 200 miles from my house---too far for me to go in the AM and get to the driver meeting on time....)

The food situation at Chuckwalla is sub-par though. The "cafe" is below sub-mediocre. And there's just nothing within 50 miles for dinner. Staying in Indio gives you great food options. I know it seems like I place a lot of emphasis on food, but when me and my buddies do a multi-day track event, we like to eat a good dinner after a track day, and we don't feel like doing lots of cooking and cleanup. Could be that we're all in our 40's and we've had enough of roughing it.

But my biggest complaint about Chuckwalla is that after all these years, they still do not have any tire service on site, and the nearest tire service is 50+ miles away......c'mon----a 7 year-old race track with no tire service within 50 miles......does that make any sense to you?

Regardless of all the logistical oddities, I still enjoy driving that track. It's really wide and I find Chuckwalla to be a great place to experiment with car setup. Up to now, the pavement has been very smooth, although sadly, the pavement is aging and they are starting to fill in the cracks with tar now.....bummer....Anyway, small changes to car setup are really noticeable on the smooth pavement and the endless amount of flat sweeping turns really test your grip at reasonable speeds. Plus, you can auger it into the desert without any problems in most places.

dogbone, I was able to stay at the VIR on-site housing last year and it was wonderful to not be driving 30 min in the morning trying to scramble to the driver's meeting

NCM Grand Course with MVP

Track: NCM Grand Course
Laptime: 2:14.45 (1sec faster than current TT3 track record)
Event: MVP , just testing new front aero and suspension
Laptimer: Harry's with OBD and GoPro
Tires: Old set of A7 315/30 rear and 295/30 front from last year (good enough for testing)

It was my 1st time at NCM. I love that track, very technical and has some tricky sections to get right. It might take me a couple times to squeeze everything out of the car. There are 2 more sec on the table. I think a time below 2:12 is possible with my TT3 racer.

I think the sum of the weight loss - sunroof, carpet, passenger seat - helped for sure. Ask redpriest

QFP solves that problem with the stock seats.
