If your parents have money to buy you a bmw as a grad present have them buy you a POS manual shift car for like 5 hundred bucks. On the weekends when your not with your friends so you dont feel embarrassed in a POS beater, putz around the neighborhood learning at your own pace. You have till June so you got plenty of time.
Enjoy the present and drive safe

hilarous dude.

NOTE: i've been reading up on the 128i and it seems to be more than adequate......is there any way to get it to LOOK like the 135? ie: bumper and the black part of the rear bumper

That's exactly what those kids in the M5 said a couple of nights before they ran it off the end of a runway at 150MPH. Parents who buy their kids this kind of car should be jailed for stupidity.

obviously jealous that you didn't have the opportunity. I am sort of in the same boat. 18 and have a moms dream car. I hate SUVs and always have. My first car was a lincoln navigator and now a slightly smaller SUV. I am hoping to get a 135i but good luck if you do. The way I think of it is new cars are made for new drivers:thumbup:

Be safe kid! If I'd had that kind of power in high school I would be eating out of a straw right now.

Have you guys been to a college campus lately? 1/4 of the cars are the IS250's, 1/4 are G35/37's, and the rest are a mix of WRX's, 350z's, BMW 3's, TL's... etc.

Dude you have to realize that you are looking to get a 40K car just for doing what you should be doing--aka, getting good grades. For people that have had a different path to acquire this vehicle, there is no way you could actually appreciate how nice the damn thing is because it will be given to you at such an early age.

Not saying you shouldn't get one, because the almighty dollar talks and bullshit walks--but don't be surprised if you get some slack from people. Regardless of how you meant it, it sounds like you are bragging that you could be driving a dream car for a 3.6 GPA(not that impressive in high school, for the record).

Its too bad that in this age of instant gratification, we have to offer our kids BMWs in order to get them to work. My ass was grass if I came home with a B, and that was in my '85 Civic that burned three quarts of oil a week. Which I paid for. Trust me, I am not jealous of you--I feel sorry for you. One day you might have a job where the equiv. of a 3.6 is expected everyday....just to KEEP your job.

BTW--is there a scale? Does an A in basket weaving get you the iPod adapter? A in physics = the sport package? lol....

times have not changed some people just have it nice. I'm 23 and I just got my mechanical engineering degree and I am still stretching to afford this thing.

Ironically, you might be on to something there. I started driving when my current car was rolling off the assembly line. I was going to say some shit about how you're completely wrong, but it's actually pretty damn close to the truth in my case.

OP, congrats if it happens, and don't let anyone hold it against you if your parents are able to provide all the things in life which parents aspire to provide. My parents never bought me a car, but they've helped me out every chance they had.

As long as you work hard for what you get, and you appreciate it and never hold it above anyone less fortunate, then more power to you, and good luck.

P.S. the 135 is ridiculously easy to drive as a standard. Not easy to drive well, but so much torque down low, and such short throws with the shifter, and such a short push with the clutch do all make for an easy standard car to drive.

OK Bill, Ted and the rest of you dudes, moving this thread to General Discussion. We're way off any discussion of the 1 Series.
