Valentine one vs passport 9500?

I'm looking to get a radar detector and the Valentine and Passport seem to be the top dogs according to my research, but theres no clear indicator on which one is superior..

Could anyone help me and give me their opinion?

Plus I want the warning to be not so obnoxious, I heard my friends radar and its freakin' loud and annoying.

Which one gives the most range.

Thanks a lot!

V1! you can set the mute and set which bands you want to work and which to shut off. Also has arrows to tell you where the detection is coming from

Cool, I like the arrow aspect a lot, I don't know much about the bands and signals and stuff like that...care to explain?

If you daily drive in city, you may prefer 8500xi because of how it autolearns the signals and figures out which ones are false alarms after driving past the same signal a few times (roughly 3x). You'll have a quieter ride and won't have the pesky thing going off all the time. It sometimes gets embarrassing when it goes off in the car with passengers.

V1 supporter here. Saved my ass no fewer than a dozen times on my drive from MI to FL yesterday.

(Total non-techy, layman explanation) Radars operate on various frequencies/bands -- K, Ka, X, and others. The V1 tells you not only the direction of the signal, but the band.

Over time I've learned what's a credible threat and what's typically not. I've never run into a police radar that's X band. K band is often false alerts, but can also be police. Ka band seems to be police radar more often than not, etc.

V1 also picks up laser, which incidentally is the preferred method of hunting for southern GA cops (who seem to be around every corner, on the far side of all hills, and gunning at you from the top of every single f-ing overpass! /rant.)

All of that said, I use the V1 only on the highway. If I wanted to use a detector in the city, I'd pick up something with the GPS memory for false signals.

Solution
http://www.laser-interceptorusa.com

Detecting lidar is just a good way to let you know that you've been clocked and should look for a place to pull over. Laser Interceptor is a laser jammer that will not let the LEO get a read until you slow down shut it off.

May not be legal in your state though

Last three detectors have been:
  • Passport 8500 - pretty good
  • V1 - very sensitive, arrows are great. But even after programming, the false alarms slowly drove me crazy
  • Passport 9500ix - Best detector I've ever had. Very sensitive, but it tunes out almost all of the false signals. O my drive to work yesterday (19 miles in the city), a total of two alerts. Both police.

I do miss the arrows, but love the new Passport.

Cheers

My friend had the model before the 9500 and it has saved us countless times and the range has been amazing. I can only imagine how much better the 9500 has become. Hope to pick one up soon.

V1.

That's all I need to say, because it's the best.

For laser shifting/jamming, look no further than the Blinder M45 or M47.

Those together is the best solution IMO.

I recently took the plunge with the V1. I do a lot of highway driving and it seems like it is the best for that purpose. I also have a long trip coming up through PA and OH, so I wanted something along for the ride. Passport 9500ix would have been my second choice, but it seems like the general consensus on this forum is that it's best for city driving and red light camera alerts.

On my way to work this morning, I set it up to kinda test it out. There's a lot of falses, but the real alerts were a little late. If I were speeding, I'd have been toast. I got the alerts a half second before I saw them. What's the point of this thing then? The arrows are nice. I also had it on the "A" setting. I know there's a 30 day return policy. So, I'll keep testing it out and see how it performs.

A while back, the Passport 9500ix was on sale at BestBuy for ~$400. I wish I had picked one up and tried it out.

You should identify Escort/Passport the models you're talking about. They range from cheap to the very high end.

Generally speaking, the top of the line detectors include the V1 and the Escort 9500ci and Redline.

The 9500ci is a remote mount unit with laser jammers included. It is very sensitive and an excellent performer.

The Redline and V1 are both windshield mount. The Redline is more sensitive than the V1 and has better "peripheral vision" so to speak. However the V1 is still very sensitive. But in addition it has the directional arrows, better ramp-up in alerting and is much faster at acquiring a signal. The V1 is also more sensitive to laser and cheaper than the RL. The performance of the 9500ci is on par with that of the RL and V1.

The two Escort models are undetectable by radar detector detectors. The V1 is not. This is important if you drive in VA or DC or are a commercial driver.

In addition, the Bel STi-R+ is a remote mount detector very similar to the 9500ci but without jammer. It is also very sensitive, stealthy and has options to tailor it to your environment making it a stellar performer. (BTW Escort owns Bel)

These 4 detectors are the high end. There are other good detectors, but these 4 lead the pack.

Cheers.
