A very busy week end at VIR with NASA, Mid Atlantic. Considering all the activity going on with racing, HPDE, and the weather, they did a very good job managing the event, and most sessions ran on time. Saturday’s Thunder race late in the afternoon was impacted by a rain shower at the Oak tree end of the track just prior to the start, so the first lap created a lot of trouble around and near oak tree, causing most of the fast cars on Rcomps to pit, plus others who suffered offs due to wet pavement.
Because of a painful back, I only had one student, a good one in HPDE 2. Becaue of my back I did not drive all that much. But, I did get one reasonably good lap Sunday morning, looking for a hole to run in, but traffic and slow point bys still prevented a good lap time. BFG R comps, 275X35X18, PFC 01 pads, SS brake lines, and timid mind set vz [u2b]youtu.be/4QvU9dmk1zo[/u2b] http://youtu.be/4QvU9dmk1zo |

Thanks for posting. Looks like such a fun, high-speed course--140mph just prior to turn 14! I'd love to get down there sometime.
Glad you had a good student. I've had many instructors tell me that it's such a crapshoot as to what kind of student they get--some are apparently pretty scary. |

All of my students are good, or at least, at the end of the event they are. That is what I am there for, to help our customers learn and to have fun. If they get scary, then that is my fault, and it is soon changed. All my students are advised early in the game - number one priority - protect your insturctor See you at VIR vz Last edited by von_zoom; 07-24-2012 at 11:54 AM.. |

Thanks Martin for fixing my video post. The instructor driving the Mustang did not want to give me a point by, and when he did, given I had been dogging him for over a lap, strange place to relent. If I had waited until around the tree, he may have changed his mind. An example and a good reason why some clubs allow advance and instructor groups to pass anywhere, with or without a point.
See ya vz

Either way...look forward to running with you at VIR next month with Tarheel. It will be my first time back to VIR since 2/10 since I moved to Florida.

Yep, I gave the Mustang a little room. I do not like to push them too much to avoid the potential of them overdriving to stay in front. Besides, not all that important to get by. vz
