Still expensive but don't have to worry about all the extra stuff, tranny, wiring harness, mounts and on and on. Probably costs half as much but less power obviously. I will shed more weight and try to make due.

I'm sure it'll be a competitor with 350whp

The more I look at the individual Tanzanite blue on the M4, the more I want it.

Yeah 360whp and 2800 lb weight would make me happy. Way better power to weight than a e9x m3.

I wonder if anyone is going to care about the S55 7 years from now when the next M comes out the way the S65 is still talked about and admired? With all the great sounding powerful engines from the F-Type, AMG, Stingray, P-Cars, etc and all high performance versions of those cars who is going to care about the f8x a year from now let alone 7 years from now?

I'm happily sticking with my e92 and it's high revs, engine and exhaust sound, and better looks.

seeing how the next gen might be a turbo 4 cylinder, it might be possible for the next engine to be worse. sadly

Why not? I think it's realistic to expect some Formula 1 technology to trickle down to road cars. Next gen M3 may well have a turbo 4 with energy recovery from the car's kinetic energy and the heated exhaust gas, storing all the energy in a battery and giving you a push to pass button. The R36 GTR is already rumored to have close to 800hp via a similar hybrid set up.

The top gear magazine article is not kind in regards to the M4 and sums up the exact reasons I'll probably never own one. Can't figure out how to paste the article on the mobile app though.

Apparently it's all about the inches... er, I mean cylinders.

Then I ask myself what is it that I love about my car. Answer: The way the power crescendos at 8400 rpm, the delivery and rawness that is unique to a race-inspired NA motor. the sound it produces whilst making that power.

Then I scratch my head and ask what is it truly that might be drawing me to the Fx M. Answer: nothing, except maybe 4 doors and a stick (which is actually relevant, but does not nearly balance the pros) And lastly, sub-clinical herd mentality that the internet is propagating within my tiny head.

Actually, a turbo 4 paired to an electric motor with various energy recovery systems would probably make for a bad-ass car, although they would need to pretty much make the whole car out of carbon fiber to counteract the weight of the batteries.

At the very least, it would be something different and new.

Insta-torque @ "0" rpms would be epic.

I don't get it either, I haven't heard one good exhaust clip. I posted a Dodge Dart exhaust clip in the Akra exhaust thread to show how the M sounds embarrassingly similar which elicited a response that the Dart sounds damn good!

Oh god. Those f8x m sound terrible. At first I thought people were just being jerks because they think their car is better. But damn. They sound awful.

The F8x cars sound like dogcrap in videos, but I heard an M4 cold start and revs in person and it sounds aggressive as hell. I love it for an I6 with two snails on it.
