I thought that when i t came to cars GT = Grand Touring. IE: Bentley Continental GT.

Gran turismo and grand touring mean the same thing I thought.

A grand tourer is a specific type of car. Similar to a 6er or a bentley cgt. Fast, and mildly sporty, but mainly for cruising in style.

Then it can be applied to other things, forms of racing, special edition cars, etc.

Usualy its a normal car with some tuning stuff and a bigger engine. Almost all marks have a GT. The style was first seen by VW with their tuned and wery succesfull GTI model. Factory tuned normal car.
At least in EU it is so. I have seen the Ford GT. A monster looking like something from the past with GT on the back.
