Drove an E92 w/ Powerchip Tune

Drove a friend's e92 with the afe filter, aftermarket exhaust and the powerchip tune. The difference is quite noticable, though I would echo Sticky's review in that it doens't change the character of the car, but rather amplifies and improves the existing characteristics. I thought the car was much more driveable and the low end was improved, though it wasn't suddenly driving like a C63 or anything. First to second gear shifts felt much smoother and I didn't feel the tendency to bog down in first gear on quick starts. It felt much smoother driving aggressively without having to get a perfect launch. The mid-range was also improved as I felt the engine was more responsive than stock just pushing the gas in any gear, and generally the car pulls harder all the way to redline.

Overall I was impressed, though I haven't had a chance to test other tunes yet and am curious to see how this compares to the AA tune.

they claim 20 hp, which I don't doubt after driving the car.

Nice review! Thanks. Sticky´s dyno states 28bhp gain, not too shabby at all!

AA does it for about $1,200 I think. But these may run anywhere between $900 and over $2,000 depending on who you go with.

Anyone know how to get this if you aren't from the states? I am in Canada and wondering if the only way to get it is to send away my ECU.

If it's a true 20 hp, that's some of the cheapest hp/$ you'll find anywhere. Especially compared to an exhaust that costs $2500.

I just switched from the ESS tune to the Powerchip tune yesterday, and am extremely happy with the results. I have only driven the car back to the garage and parked it however. I look forward to testing it out further when the roads are dry (I don't take the M out in the rain).

It has some more "adapting" to do

Is the powerchip tune a reflash? What happens when BMW services your car and they reflash the BMW software on there? Will powerchip reflash the ECU for you at no additional cost?

Who sells the powerchip tune?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

It is not detectable by the dealer, an update will overwrite the software.

You own the software for life, the first couple reflashes don't cost anything I believe but after that it is $100.
