You also can purchase the Escort Live which allows other Escort users in your vicinity to transmit their signal to your iphone in the car when your miles away from the radar.
I never break the speed limit without an Escort

Been using the same Valentine 1 unit for 6 years now, never ONCE didn't find the cop. Absolutely incredible, paid for itself within the first 3 months.

V1
In 1985 I purchased an original Escort Radar Warning Receiver. I had it "remoted" because I lived in VA. I used it daily for 15 years, worked very well.
This unit was designed by Mr. Valentine. After 15 years of grueling service, it died. When Mr. Valentine left Cincinnati Microwave, I followed him. In 2001 I got my first V1, this unit is still in service, used daily. In 2010 I got my second V1, for the M. No regrets. |

Go here http://www.radardetector.net/forums/ and you can learn more than you will ever want to know. These people have hobbyist among them that have purchased various radar/laser equipment and done substantial testing as to what works and what doesn't. This is the most active detector forum on the internet and like any such forum it has many fanboys but outside of sorting those types out there is no more comprehensive repository of such knowledge on the internet.

V1 is a licence saver. Recent trip to Jacksonville it worked flawless spotted every single cop well before I could see them and the arrows are very useful when you get used to them.

I was wondering what to get, also, and searched forums and read more information than was probably healthy.
In the end, I looked at both the leading Escort and the V1. However...they are ugly. I had a Cobra for almost eight years that was fantastic. And it looked pretty nice on the front windshield. But the blocky V1 looks like three legos were glued together, then melted. And the Escort looks like a pre-1974 Buck Rodgers TV device. Since Cobra's had been reliable for me, I went to their website and found the iRadar. First, it has exterior packaging that looks much nicer. Second, if you want to, you can pair it with a BlueTooth iPhone, iPod, Android, whatever, to have a few enhancements. Third, it has much newer technology than what I used previously. No, we don't buy these things because they look pretty -- we buy them so that they will detect radar/laser signals. After about four weeks of use, the iRadar seems to be flawless. I have an iPod Touch permanently connected to the USB port in the console, and it is pretty much a dedicated iRadar accessory...primarily to assist with sound notifications. But the last couple of weeks I've just let the iRadar go solo. It makes plenty of noise when it detects something, it only has one small light, and there's a mute button. Having a new $$ car and then throwing a bulky, ugly piece of plastic on the dash/window was not appealing. The iRadar seems to be working just fine. ..

I have a Escort 8500ci Plus which is basically a GPS 9500ci w/o the laser jammer. I love it and it works great! It saved me like 7 times where I KNOW I would've gotten a ticket during my last trip to cali! Lol I was getting alerts from over a mile away.
