CCC with Iphone 5s?

Don't flame me, never owned an iphone (android user), but considering the 5s. How well does it work with the CCC system? Steering wheel controls work? Song names pop up?

Thanks

You might have to wait a few days/weeks to find out. The 5S comes out on Friday. My guess is it's no different than the 5 which worked perfectly with my CCC.

Are you sure? They were at ATT today for sale here in Maine. So he could find out this week.

Curious, how are you connecting the 5 to the Y-cable? Or is there a new cable that I need to buy? Got my 5s a few days ago but had 4s previously. I saw a video where a guy tried to use the 30-pin to lightning adapter and it didn't work. Thanks.

You don't need a Y-cable anymore. Just use your lightning cable and plug it into the USB outlet. That gives you the song info, text notifications, Pandora, etc. Also, read this thread:

The 30 pin to lightning adapter works fine on the CCC (2008 M3) The newer CIC does have a different system so I don't know how that works.

I find the lightning adapter's audio quality is not as good as with the regular 30 pin connection though.

Can't use that with the 2008 M3 which has the older CCC idrive. The poster has an 08.

Correct. Btw I already tried the lightning to USB cable by itself. CCC could not detect it all. I guess that means I need to buy a new M3. Lol.

If I were in you guys' shoes, I'd strongly consider the combox upgrade rather than fighting with the Y-Cables, etc... BT is much easier to use and you don't even have to take your phone out of your pocket to have your music. I don't find any issues with the quality of the BT audio either. Alternately you can go the BT-AUX adapter route with your current systems, but that involves a digital/analog conversion at the adapter, which could affect the overall quality.

It's been mentioned 3+ times in this thread... the poster has an 2008 CCC idrive. There is no Combox for CCC. Only in the 2009+ M3 is this available as an upgrade.

My apologies, I thought it was available for all CCC models.

Edit: Apparently you can upgrade to CIC first, then add Combox:

Yes.. that's a $3-4k upgrade at minimum. IMHO not worth it. I just play music off an USB drive and save the hassle.

I have a CCC iDrive and I have an iphone 5 with ios7...

My bluetooth navigates calls just fine, my phone book pulls up on the dash and it works great.

My audio from itunes, pandora, netflix, waze, google maps, escort live, youtube all play through my hardwire connection. I have a 30 pin to 30 pin adapter (cause there was a change in 30 pin connectors for iphones after 2008) connected to a 30 pin to lightning adapter.

I use the phone to navigate everything which is mounted on my dash using a BMW specific ProClip dock...

Occasionally song and artist will show up on idrive and occasionally i can control with the idrive knob... But most of the time it just says "looking for cd" but everything plays fine.

If someone can make a device that taps the ccc's dvd input to project the iphone icons to the idrive screen and device a way to use the ccc idrive knob to navigate it... It would be better than a cic unit

Forgot to mention that USB to lightning cable does charge the phone but that's about it. Like PandaM3 said, bluetooth phone part works fine. Anything related to playing music does not. Btw I have iPhone 5s and CCC.

A $10 8gb usb stick is a better option for music.

I prefer to have my phone where I can take a quick look at it when I need to. (bad habit i know, usually only at stop lights)

Actually mine charges and plays music... But i dunno if its oem or aftermarket as I bought the car used and the interface is through the cd changer input on the ccc menu and the wire comes out of the glove box

Here is my exact setup

Specifically i have this part

Combines with this

Then this

Into this

And finally this

With an 08 M3 (like me) why not something like the Dension Gateway 500? I've got mine on-hand and probably going to install it this weekend. Pretty much will add all the functionality I want to my CCC iDrive and still look stock.

Have thought about the CIC upgrade, but it's a bit rich for my blood when I have my sights set on starting out with more important upgrades... like speakers and (maybe) exhaust. $500 for the Dension seemed like a bargain. And having looked it over, the install doesn't seem too tough.

All of your links get to the main site (such as apple.com), but are unresolved after that (product not found). Can you double check these & update?

Presuming OP (or anyone else reading this) has a USB port, yes. If not, AUX is the only option unless you go third-party.
