I love this motor

45-60 minute sessions....nearly five hours of track duty in 92F. This V8 is truly a master piece of engineering. Burned thru nearly a entire front set of Pagid Yellows. The NT-01s tires performed great.

Kudos to the M engineers.

Apparently, a group of N54-N55 owners asked how the M3 could continue to run without a "cool down", I could only smile as a former "boosted" N54 owner I could appreciate their pain.

Agreed. This engine just seems to get smoother and smoother with each mile. I am impressed.

That is so awesome to hear! Am going to be pushing my baby as well this summer and is nice to hear some positive feedback about the engine under those conditions. The eMgineers () did a helluva job with our loved ones

Good to hear they are bulletproof!
Wonder what happen if this motor with SC? How long can it run without stopping?

The E92 M3 sheds heat really well. Well, except for the brakes...

OP, what does your temp gauge show during your track sessions?
Also, I agree this motor deserves praise. I've spent many hours bouncing of redline and never a single complaint.

And the power steering.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Agreed, heat soak is an issue down here.

What pads are you using?

250-260F. The temps stay consistent regardless of ambient temps.

No, the car has been bullet proof with regard to oil consumption. I haven't had any measurable oil consumption in 12k despite major track mileage.

How often do you change the oil? I am thinking every 5 events? Have close to 20 events this year so that would be reasonable, no? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I know you're asking Bubbles but I have an oil change story. The first year I didn't change my oil, despite participating in track events 2-3 times per month. I decided to change the oil at 10k miles because of how hard I was driving the car - I just couldn't believe the engine wouldn't benefit from an oil change. Once I changed it I immediately started getting 2mpg better gas mileage and the engine seemed to rev more freely. I now change the oil every 5k no matter what bmw suggests.

this is a 'launch control' type of a duh question but ... for the intermediate oil changes, I'm planning one as soon as I hit 7500miles.. how much does a BMW dealer typically charge for this?

I tracked my E92 this past weekend for a three day event. Sat & Sun I wore out my PFC 01 pads (they weren't new) and I corded my left front PSC+ (not really a shocker as I have not camber plates and it is a short course). So Monday came and I was in full street trim (pads and tires) on Summit Point Main track. Sure I had to get on the binders early and I had to take the corners a lot slower, but that S65 pulled hard on the straights. Here I was in what is essentially a full street car, and I'm putting down lap times equal to instructors in E30 M3 track cars running full slicks. It was amazing. Talk about rubber band effect!

As for oil, I have been doing an oil change half way between when BMW does their oil change under the maintanence program. I sent my oil to Blackstone and they agreed that it is needed at the 8-10K range. I don't track my E92 all that much because of the E46, but she'll see about 6-10 days a year.
