Good to be back...
After selling my E92 a while ago in hopes of acquiring the new F80, I was somewhat disappointed and decided to come back. This time I chose the E90 since I have a new family member (daughter).
S65 is a glorious engine and makes the right sounds at the right time. There is a visceral feeling when driving the car that puts a huge smile on your face. The F80 felt fast however was disappointed with the sound (or lack of) and was missing something I couldn't point out. Even though the interior is a very nice upgrade and the numbers on paper show it is a much better car, it is not worth double the price of a low mileage e90/e92 imo. |

Great car! Congratulations!!
I just changed the oil on my e90 and it drives like new. You are right, these cars have something that goes beyond numbers or comparisons in performance. Your kid will be much happier getting in and out of the e90 vs the e92. My own kid is very comfortable in the e90 and he is seven -- the e92 M3 was always a hassle for him and he could not open a window. So it is a great compromise for the family. |

Nice! Enjoy the e9x M while you can....there will be a f8x M waiting. Also, I personally want to see what Lexus, audi, merc and others have coming out to compete with the f8x M

The S65 is the last true "M" motor, IMHO that is priceless. The end of the line. The F80's number are very impressive but I too chose to go back to the S65 M3.
I still resent BMW for not using the S65 in 4.4L version that already existed for the F80. The excuse that they did for gas mileage doesn't ring true for me. I think they did as the N55 and S55 come off the same production line. The M motors were produce all by themselves... And you have the E90 M3, perfect setup and family and fun! |

Congrats! I'm still in love with wringing out the S65 and the sound continues to be inspirational. I found the f80 I test drove to be a bit sterile in comparison.

Welcome back to home man !
So....."We're coming home now" Note; Stop the video at 0:54 and read=> As it all comes down "To the sound" ! (of the S65 ) And if you play this song in your E90 ," You're realy home "

I paid almost 100k for a 2011 E90, admittedly it was fully loaded and only 9,900km, my car would have been close to 175k new. |

I have had a similar experience with the new M4. I was ready to leave my e92 for it, and had very high hopes for the car. I test drove it, and it was fast, handled better than my e92 and felt a little bit lighter. It has a nicer interior and almost everything was a step up from the previous generation. But driving my car right after it, I just loved the S65 paired with the DCT too much. The new engine and transmission felt numb. I also hated the steering at comfort mode.
It's more than just the sound the S65 makes, there's something about a naturally aspirated engine...paired with Eisenmann Race

Two different cars. The new one is a torque monster whereas the S65 is an incredible high revving NA v8 the likes of which will never be built again.
I have not driven the F8x M cars yet. Respected media says they are awesome. I am sure I will love them when I do get a drive. That said once they can be had for well under MSRP or for $50k on the used market I bet the driving experience will be even that much better. The S65 is special no doubt and last of the hand built M motors. I plan to keep my E92 and add a F80M3 in a few years. Welcome back btw. E9x cars are a steal right now on the used market so smart move. |
