S65 vs LSX Dimensional Difference
Hi,
I was talking to a shop to see if I could swap an LS motor into my E90. It's an N52 in there now. Aside from the wiring which they said they wouldn't even consider touching they said that the width between the frame rails is 28 inches and that an LS would need 30 inches at minimum. With all these little cars running LS engines I wondered how this could be that it wouldn't fit. I am wondering what the dimensional differences are with the S65 and LSX. Does anyone have any data on the S65 whereby I could use it for comparison? |

The main issue that most people are afraid of is the ECM integration with the sensors and gauges. Do you have info on how your friend did that? |

It's been done plenty of times in the E36 body style. If you look on bimmerforums.com You will find lots of info, you can reach out to the fab shops and etc to sort out the witting harness and etc. look under engine swap !! Good luck ! |

This was my idea exactly. I am just having a hard time finding someone competent to take on the work. I want to really compare engine block dimensions. Tons of LSx specs but nothing to compare on the s65. |

Ask this guy to measure the dimensions for you.
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=924475 I believe an LSx would sit in there just perfectly. If there is enough room for S65, there is definitely more than enough room for an LS. Quote:
