Metal cover on fender heat exchanger
New owner here - I just noticed that looking into the front air intake on the passenger side (USA) there is a small heat exchanger. From what I've been able to tell it's a transmission oil cooler. (Car is a 2011 E92 6MT) The weird part is that there is a metal shield blocking airflow across part of it. Is this normal? I can't seem to find any pictures with this shield in place. Part of the fender lining is torn on the other side so I'm wondering if it may have been removed and reinstalled as part of maintenance. (Apparently the AC Compressor was replaced at one point under warranty)

Don't know if this helps but my E90 does not have that metal piece blocking anything.
My cooler fins go across the entire surface (end to end). My car is 2010 build. |
