Unfortunately, I don't think it will make a difference. I have both the subframe and differential bushings. All the diff whine is translated from the diff to the subframe and from the subframe into the cabin. I suspect the DEFIV brace (which also uses solid subframe mounts) would not change the situation. I've seen it reported that the brace does not add any NVH, but I suspect that's only true if you leave the subframe bushings stock.

Interesting response from the vendor. So I guess there would be a lot of benefits beyond just lowering rotational mass.
I'd still paint mine...even if it is under the car.

Would love to see a CF driveshaft option for the M3, as the M4 has.

I sent a message to The Driveshaft Shop to ask about a CF shaft for the DCT cars. They say they need an exemplar to play with and some pics of the OEM driveshaft on the car to gauge clearances, etc.
Anyone local that can help them out? (I believe they are in North Carolina.) |

They don't have one yet for DCT but I think plan on it in the future.

Wonderful! Do you have diff bushing or subframe bushing upgraded?

Yes I have solid derlin rear diff mounts, and race engine mounts. One of the things I want to see is if the new drive shaft pulls out some of the rear diff noise because of how sound/vibration deadening carbon fiber is.

Congrats on getting your driveshaft, squartus. I am interested in it for the exact same reasons as you. Good luck with the install. Definitely looking forward to your feedback re: the diff whine. |
