BMW never ceases to amaze me, In E46 series it had all variants, Coupe, Sedan, Cabrio and Touring, yet all were called/named E46? What's there in the naming/numbering?

What is the difference on the interior of the e90 and e92? I was looking at buying a the aluminium trim to replace the wood grain, and noticed posts that made it seem like they were not interchangeable. Obviously the iDrive and non-iDrive is different, but beyond that, why wouldn't they fit one another? Or am I mistaken and they would fit?

The E92 has longer doors.

The dash and console trim would be the same, but the door (and rear 1/4 trim on the two doors) is obviously different.

I'd guess that the door pieces are of a different length up front, and obviously widely different in the back.
