Dashboard control

Anyone know what this is? I checked the owner's manual and also searched the forum but nothing came up.

That's the prompt for whether you want the tach redline warning to function (or turn off). Did you hit the button on the stalk thinking it was the turn signal? I've done that before

Please elaborate on what this does? What do you mean "tach redline warning"? Do you mean the variable redline that moves as the car warms up? I wasn't aware you could turn this feature off?

Believe this is on/off of the shift light if you don't have iDrive.

No, this is for the lights above the variable redline, that are your shift warning indicators. As you approach redline, they light up from left to right in yellow, then red, then blinking red. You can disable them, as shown in his picture.

Gotcha. I knew about the shift lights, just didn't know you could turn them off this way. I always went through iDrive to do it.

Yes, it is only for "auto transmissions", and I fixed it for you.

This type of activity is quite dangerous and should be refrained from while operating a motor vehicle. My friend told me so.

shift light

I can't be certain because I don't redline every time I drive, but I think it resets to OFF every time you start the car?
