2009 Official BMW M Fleet unveiled at the Jerez Moto GP

Quote:
BMW ///M used the Jerez MotoGP motorbike race to show off the official MotoGP safety Car fleet, including the latest addition in the shape of the BMW X6 M -already seen at the season’s opening races in Qatar and Japan.

The starting grid at Jerez heralded the assembly of the full BMW Safety Car and VIP Shuttle fleet on Saturday evening, after the all-important qualifying sessions had been completed, with the cars keys handed over to Race Direction.

Heading the Safety Car fleet is the BMW X6 M, with its newly developed V8 high-performance M TwinPower Turbo engine. The car was only revealed to the world at the New York Motor Show three weeks ago. Alongside it on each MotoGP grid continues to be the glorious roar from the V10 507bhp BMW M6.
Race Director Paul Butler now has a BMW M5 Touring at his disposal for official duties, with the Medical Car a 330i Touring. A brand new M3 Sedan has been given to the Safety Officer Claude Danis.

The Race Stewards have the use of an X5 4.8i, but that is not the end of the mouthwatering BMW presence at the track. The front of each Grand Prix grid will feature a brand new BMW S 1000 RR and a BMW HP 2 Sport as Safety Bikes.
Thought I'd share... The bikes look amazing!

From what I see:

E90 ///M3
E63 ///M6
E71 X6 ///M

E61 ///M5
E61 ///M5
E70 X5 ///M

The remainder of the SAVs are M sport models. So I guess the only car not there is the E60 ///M5 and I would imagine that is why there were two E61s.

BTW- I would not call the ///M SAVs weak- especially once they are dynoed and tracked.

Sure they are a departure for ///M but like Willich said they designed the 4.8is X5 and that was not ///M worthy; these are. Basically they just wanted to show what they can do with the tech they have been working on and also usher in a new age of turbo charging without decommissioning the S65 or S85 early.

I still have not fully warmed up to the idea but it is growing on me..

Nice to zoom!

I can't understand why they would not have an X5 ///M (and the fact they put the decals on it) and I just looked quick and saw 2 SAVs w/ decals and 2 wagons, since there is no ///M3 wagon it was easy to assume two E61s! Guess BMW (of Spain?) I guess is pulling a fast one with their decals!

I am here more regularly these days... though I am quite busy.

On a separate note- still trying to get a 12 hr. team together...
