M3 DCT Production Delayed

Hi,

I had March production on my M3 with DCT until today. My dealer called me and said that the delivery is delayed to end of June or early July. He also said that itīs more likely that the delivery is earlier than june/july then after. I dont hope I will get a September delivery, I want my car until the sommer !

Did he tell you the reason for the delay? What is your current order status? Mine is 111 and I didn't get any info about a possible delay so far. My M3 (with DCT) is scheduled for week 17 (end of April).

This might make sense if your on order car is a sedan. If it is a coupe, unless there is a pending announcement of a wide-spread delay everything else I have read here would suggest that your dealer is playing games with you.

I were told, the M-GmbH would have some troubles with the M-DCT and therefor the delivery would be delayed for all vehicles

I also received my production number yesterday and I was told week 19 for my car with DCT. They said I should see my car first week in June.

My car will be built next week but it is not confimed yet. I placed my order july 6 2007. I friend of mine who ordered his car juli 31 has got a new productiondate late june.
Of course with the M-DCT gearbox, otherwise I already had taken delivery.

This is like a MDCT ping-pong match; delayed - not delayed - delayed. Week 10 is the first MDCT production so hopefully we will get off to a good start. I don't recall the SMG launch back in Nov 2001 having these delay issues. On a flagship car like the M3 BMW needs to get its act together......

Its well documented now that m-dct is not available until June or July time certainly in europe, although there has been the odd rogue order that seems ok.

DCT transmission came available as a March production. However it seems likely that orders with DCT transmission will be pushed at least until May... of course with few exceptions.

Mine got pushed from week 12 to week 19 for a m3 coupe.

Unless you are on the special VIP list you are under the mercy of BMW AG.

I am looking at mid June delivery. I guess it is worth the wait.

Wow. My local dealer told me (Not sure how credible) that all DCT trannies were spoken for, and that there is a shortage in availability.

So to summarize: No production problems, just a limited availability in the first 3 months. This is actually old news. In about 3 or 4 weeks the April deliveries (including mine ) will be confirmed or moved. Then we will know for sure what's going on.

My dealer has been in touch with the people and Munich and things are not looking good. Its not very clear whats going on but looks like there will be delays. He mentioned something about a 1000 cars (the very first orders) getting DCT sooner but the others might have to wait. If mine gets delayed past June production I am cancelling there is no way I am getting the car for the winter.

For what it's worth some quick math.

If BMW produced 1000 M3 per month WW and 50% are MDCT then capacity for 1000 MDCT cars would only cover March and April builds.

Things are so complicated right now...well we know that DCT is already limited before June, but does that mean within this limit there will be a delay?

Guys this could be a blessing in disguise.

Do you really think that BMW's FIRST venture into a dual clutch transmission will come off without a glitch or hitch? It is almost certain the first cars will have some teething issues. I just don't see a brand new trans system being trouble free right out of the box.... They may have supply issues now, but as far as the new unit being trouble-free.... I wouldn't bet on it.

You've waited this long. Perhaps it's better you don't put down the money and end up with a car that's in the shop that you can't use. Let BMW get things figured out.

I got a confirmation from my salesman today at 1147 EST (GMT-5) that my DCT order has not changed. With no projected delay in the build date that is still scheduled for next week. I assume he checked the status just before he emailed me that info. I should have a VIN by the end of this week. I'll let you all know if that doesn't happen.

Did the OP have 18 or 19" wheels. I wonder that makes a difference.

I wonder if they're shifting all of the March-May limited production to the DCT cars destined for North America?

My dad has an early production SMG on a 2001 M3. He's never had a problem with it in the 7 years he's owned the car.

I have to say I'm a little more optimistic about this than you are.

This new M3 is gonna be known for delays. They have delayed this car at so many stages so many times. First they said that the car would come to the USA in Dec. 07, then they delay it. Now this delay. My prediction is the E93 M3 will be delievered in 2025...
