help me pick an exhaust?
Hey guys, new to the forums and just picked up my M3 a few days ago! However, the stock exhaust is a tad quiet for my taste so I'm planning to swap it out as soon as I finish my break-in.
I'm looking for an exhaust thats similar to the Maserati Gran Turismo S... but not similar in tone. Like DB level wise and such, especially on cold start. A few people on my block own various Maserati models, with the Gran Turismo being the loudest of the bunch and most of the neighbors seem to not mind it starting up. One of the neighbors owns a trackrat S2000 with a J's Racing exhaust (which is the loudest exhaust for the S2000 according to him) and most neighbors complain when he drives out. So I guess as the title states: help me pick something out? I don't think videos really do justice for me.. I just know that the Dinan is pretty stock like and Meisterchaft with an x-pipe is ungodly loud and probably unacceptable. |

Have you looked at the Tubi Style exhaust for the M3? I find it gives the M3 V8 a bit of that Italian flair. It comes in race (loud) and street (not as loud) versions.
Below is a clip I found on YouTube (sorry, couldn't help myself). Eisenmann Race
Best sound and it is exactly what you are looking for. Not obnoxiously loud unless you install a catless/resonator-less x pipe.

I'm on the same boat and i think i'm going for Eisenmann race. I think AA signature sounds the best (exotic) but i'm afraid it might be too quiet and close to stock. I dont want to spend more than $3000, so adding an x-pipe to AA will be too expensive.

I think the Tubi Style sounds the most exotic that I've heard. For those of you who don't want to spend that much (like me!) the UUC / Corsa also sounds really nice and is 1/2 the price.

Many find the Eisenmann Race too loud for a daily driver. Which ever exhaust you choose keep in mind:
1. The M3 is way louder on start up due to emissions control. On a normal day in a warm climate it will be loud for maybe 1 minute. 2. Make sure you filter through exhausts choices to get one with no drone. Drone will ruin anything you like about the exhuast. 3. Shop used. No matter which one you want you can probably find it used, in perfect condition for 1/2-2/3 of the new price.

as far as your M3 exhaust selection goes, i believe there is a 9:00~ video of various exhaust setups, maybe one catches your fancy.
and your friend with the S2000, although his exhuast is loud, its not the loudest |

I just got the Tubi Rumore and love it. You can really feel the car at startup, and there is a clip of it on this website.

How about the Remus Race Exhaust? It's the most popular exhaust system that Remus sells in the United States. A lot of the guys love the high pitched exotic note - Here's a video on our customer's M3 comparing the Sports and Race system: [u2b]<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6BC4xtrOTSA?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6BC4xtrOTSA?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>[/u2b] Last edited by M II; 08-13-2010 at 05:47 PM.. |

If cost is not an issue, then I would go with the Akra Evo System. I bought from AlekShop who is a site sponsor. Very good turn-a-round time and service. The exhaust itself is feather lite and sounds terrific. Minimal drone, easy maintenance and awesome look.

One thing... the M3 is really loud on cold start. It has to light off the cats and they are not close coupled, so the motor sounds pretty loud for a few minutes. My Magnaflow used to consistently wake my neighbors... my Corsa doesn't as much, but it's definitely not quiet on a cold start.
It does sound really nice, though!
