I am 100% certain that the new iDrive will turn up in US 3 series models sometime during the '09 model year. I'm about 50/50 that they'll be released during September production.

For the record! I am so happy the 09s MAY not get the new iDrive. BTW those map graphic look SO MUCH BETTER than ours. I still don't understand why we can't eventually (2010ish) get a software upgrade.
PS-BMW can give a fuck who they piss off!!! They already made their money on us 08 buyers. And we will keep going back, pissed or not! |

Did you read the thread? It is 100% 09's get the new iDrive.
Also, how miserable a life do you have where you temper your misfortune (which was avoidable if you did your research) with hope for others to experience misfortune also? Sounds like a real good way to stack up a lot of bad karma against yourself. Just MHO though. |

I had three posts in that thread. The first one only showed exterior E90 pics, the second one those of the E92 and the last bunch were interior pics of both E90 and E92 per big's request. Jason probably added these to my OP. Didn't expect this to cause confusion. Quote:

I have a bad feeling that the "cutting edge" iDrive system, despite its updates, will still be worlds behind my 2 year old AVIC Z1 in terms of features and functionality. One interesting point in the pdf is how BMW came to the determination that controls were safer and less distracting than a touch screen system. |

However, I hope that some industrious owner will find the location of the oem HD. From there it would simply be a matter of finding a compatible drive with a similar RPM and a larger size, and cloning the old to the new. As far as the touchscreen vs controls debate, I think the touchscreen offers the most seamless control, but it is very distracting. |

US Spec cars in Germany -Anyone have any clue if the '09 M3 nav systems that are US spec will work in Germany? I just ordered a '09 coupe for use while I'm over here in Germany. Previously we just had to buy a European disk & it worked fine...not so sure about the hard drive based nav.

I wonder what it will cost to retrofit the '09 system to an '08? Probably a few thou, I would guess.
