oil cooler half blocked?
any1 ever notcie our oil coolers have a metal sqaure that blocks half of the oil cooler? any1 know why bmw did this? any effect if we take it off?

That's a transmission oil cooler not engine oil cooler. I removed the plate about 4 years ago from my car. DCT doesn't have it.
It's sort of a pain to remove (need to remove bumper partially).

More air making it into the wheelwell means less downforce/more lift. I don't believe there is a thermostat on that tranny oil circuit either, so it could overcool the oil

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

BMW M must have had a good reason to put it there, otherwise it wouldn't have been there in the first place. Why take it off if you aren't having any problems with an over heating transmission?
