Better price for key fob replacement?

My wife lost one of my two M3 key fobs.

I have seen prices in various forums of about $200-$350 for a new one. My dealer roughly quoted about $350 (tax included) for the part and another $150 for activation. Come on I know it it a cool key, some electronics and comfort access is very useful, but $500 for a fob? Unreal. I would greatly appreciate input on where to get the best price for a fob and how to eliminate or save on this $150 (probably at a rate of $100 per minute of work).

Thanks much.

I'm wondering about this too. Wife lost he x5 key. They sell used ones on eBay, but the physical key would not be cut for your car even if you can reprogram it.

Can you have the dealer reprogram the fob?

I got my replacement key recently from a friend who works at a bmw dealer for 266...If you have comfort access you'll need to get it program at a dealer and it'll cost you about 150 give or take 10 bucks.Since this is just a backup key i didnt get it reprogram. The key will stilll work but not the comfort access. If i lose my existing then i'll go and get it reprogram.

Hey guys, I've been looking for the same thing, I need a spare key for BMW 08 M3. I see a lot of cheap fob keys on eBay but I am wondering if there is anyway to reprogram it yourself since the keys they are selling one eBay are used and have been programmed before. I know you will need a new keyblade since it is cut but they also sell those on ebay as well for like $8 bucks. Does anyone know how to reprogram a fobkey that has already been programmed before? If all else fails I might just have to spend 200+ bucks at the dealership.

I had to buy a replacement key a couple of years back - it was $350 from the dealer (apparently more $$ because of CA)... but they didn't charge me a fee to program it. Maybe that's a new fee, but it seems odd for them to charge for it.

FWIW, I also had to take the car & keys in a couple of times. Seems they'd program one & the other would "forget" the car, then the other way around.

Golffrr - That would be Awesome! We are still down one X5 Key. Can you also find out if you buy a key on like ebay, can it be programed to my car? Obviously the physical key wouldn't work, but I don't care that much about that.

My mom has a beeper keyfob thingy on her keys so she does not lose them. Even with it she still manages to lose them weekly.

i just got a couple quotes for a couple forum members on here and i was shocked with even my discount how expensive the fobs are! gzz.

Also guys keep in mind if your leasing your car you will be responsible to return the car at the end of the lease with both keys. Im sure you all know that though

Current price for replacement fobs?

I was wondering how much the 335i key and fobs are now. I was told they are all made (10) when the car was manufactured and stored in a warehouse. Is there a way to buy wholesale from the warehouse?

Valets lost my key late last year and it was about the same as what others quoted up top. The labor charge is kinda BS, so try to negotiate it. (e.g. "Hey, I bought the fob and key from you guys, can you help me out a bit here?"

08 e92 m3 key fob

hi , I only have one key fob as well, no CA...
I heard that you can get the key fob for about $175 , additional for the uncut key, and that w/o CA, there is no actual programming....you put the key near the steering column while starting the car with the first key and the new fob is programmed to the car....
is that true ?
