Stuck in Assembly/QA Status (Status 155) Since July 9??

I posted this in the New Pricing/Order forum and didn't get much of a response so I thought I would try here. My CA called me today and told me my 8/24 PCD would have to be postponed because my car is "stuck in assembly". He said it is still in production status 155. WTF?? According to the 800 number, the car began production July 4 and finished July 9. Well, apparently not!

Of course thats all the information he had and said he would look into it further. What would be causing this? Might it have something to do with the Sept. changes? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What's worse is that I wanted to time the order so that delivery would coincide with my lease end on my 335i. Am I going to end up with Sept/Oct delivery without the benefit of the new standard features/options?? This sucks!

Any number of things could have happened. Most likely they ran some tests after it rolled off the line and something wasn't correct, engine, transmission or what not. They will backtrack to find out what went wrong and where and replace whatever part was defective, if something was defective.

So do you think it takes 3 weeks to troubleshoot and repair? To what end? If the plant is closing at the end of the week, where does that leave me? This is not cool.

It could be a part shortage that's stopped the production of your particular car.

Yeah that definately sux bro. Not sure whats going on. I would imagine though any type of repair/replacement would be at a different facility than the factory floor, which may not close. Hard to tell, most of Germany shuts down in August.

Do you think they would comp me? Maybe reduce the purchase price? My current lease ends on 8/10 and I am purchasing the M3 - maybe they would extend my lease at a discounted rate while I wait?

Should call the BMW customer service reps. Have them find out whats going on. If it's a non-typical delay, then yeah I'd ask the dealer to treat your current lease car as a loaner till your M3 comes in, or if they say they can't do that, turn in your lease car and make them give you a loaner.

I called BMW custormer service this morning and inquired as to why the car is still in assmebly/quality. The phone rep told me she did not have access to that information and that the dealership would have to contact the factory to find out what is going on. She told me she would contact the sales manager and that the sales manager would contact me directly. This might be a silly question, but why can't customer service contact the factory? BMW makes a great car but is terrible at customer service.

Just FYI, half the Germany is on vacation right now. This could be a reason too.

Maybe, but in reading some of these threads it looks like other forum members' cars are getting through. If someone at the dealership would figure it out and contact me, I could stop speculating.

My car was finished yesterday and there were no delays. I think September options has something to do with your delay.

Just got off the phone with BMW NA. The phone rep was extremely helpful. He said he could only speculate, but he thinks it is a problem with the tracking system rather than with the car. Production completed on July 9. He said he will investigate further and let me know. I will post when I find out more.

Update: My CA contacted the factory and it sounds like multiple vehicles are being held up for a "trim issue" and some for a "seat module issue". I am not sure what this means but it sounds like I won't be getting my car anytime soon. Not sure what this means for others waiting for august delivery...

My E93 was stuck in QA for about 10 days after production. I got the car with 15 miles. Obviously they had to do some testing/repairs. Nobody could tell me what happened though.

Thanks for the heads up. The car is still in quality as far as I know, and its been there nearly a month now. I actually ended up backing out of the deal. I was having some issues with the dealer and the CA that ultimately could not be resolved.

She will make someone, somewhere, a very a happy owner!

Yes, I am working with another dealership now. They are trying to find me a car already in the pipeline. Worst case they have a September slot available and I will spec out a new one.

You can get the MDrive standard then! Good thing you could back out.
