I don't understand why BMW lags in technology
every other car maker it seems now have integrated email, text , siri , and all other upcoming technology in their cars already, but it takes so long for BMW to get these things going even if they are the first to come up with the idea. I mean how is that Accord has it and ours don't? I know that is not reason I have BMWs, but the little touches others are now throwing in that BWM seems to drag their feet a bit.

iOS6 devices integrates with office on new iDrive cars.
BMW was one of the first to have iPOD controls. It's also a legal issue in the US since we like to sue people over our own stupidity... like reading a txt while driving.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

If you want an Accord, buy an Accord.
Personally I prefer to listen to an S65. But to each his own. Certainly the contenting of BMWs has increased dramatically of late, along with the continued physical growth and weight/heft of the F30. I think BMW is doing a very good job of listening to it's customer's, some of which at least remain enthusiast drivers, versus say info-tainment transport device operators.

Back in the day Porsche's and Bimmer's didn't even have cup holders, because they were meant to drive... and drive only.
No offense, OP, but I'm glad that BMW doesn't focus on "technology". That stuff should be saved for the living room. |

They are laging because they won't release it until they are satisfied with the user interface. I know BMW's Idrive was crap when it first came out, but now it is one of the, if not the best user interface in the business.
The technology will be released, they just want to make sure they get it right before going public. |

I could understand this argument for the normal line of bmws but for an m3....I don't think so. This is coming from a guy who likes all the up to date phones laptops and other tech gadgets. When you drive a car like the m3 you simply don't need any of that high tech stuff. What we have in the car is more than enough and I've never complained once. Got my nav, iPod connectivity, and premium sound to enjoy it. However I barely listen to that because we have a monster under the hood. Seriously the engine alone is worth buying this car

If you expect to be able to text or email while driving then get the f off this forum and don't come back until you understand why that is just wrong.

You know if BMW made a toilet for our cars, the retractable toilet paper holder would fraking get stuck in the closed position (you just know a lil piece of TP would be hanging out where the thing is stuck and wouldn't match the rest of my piano black interior). Plus!! The OEM performance carbon fiber version would only be available on the GTS... So I'd HAVE to buy replica from a forum vendor (locally painted with a fade to accent the fiber of course!!), which would turn out to have shitty fitment with the commode. Then, I'd finally man up and call those bastards over at IND for the Challenge Race version of the seat only to find out the guy who made the original mold is on hiatus and I gotta wait FORFACKINGEVAH!!! All this shit started 'cuz I really wanted a tastefully modded M3 with just some harmless painted reflectors and side markers. Fawk me... IND sells crack. To the OP BMW likes you to pay for it later as an upgrade .... Just kidding Our first ever 1987 BMW has an on board computer and a lot of stuff that other car makers only added much later to there cars.

Glad to see that people think Siri is more important that fuel and weight savings.

If BMW appeases the "I want it all" generation, they get slammed by enthusiasts for making cars that are too heavy and too expensive -- and even if they make everything optional to keep the base price lower, their cost to manufacture goes up and they instead get people complaining that some of those options "should be standard in a car that costs $XX". And if instead they try to appease the enthusiasts -- you know, those wacky people who just want BMW to continue doing what made them so beloved in the first place compared to Lexus, or at the very least keep all the technology to the SUVs and larger cars -- they get slammed by people like the OP.
You can't have it all. If you compromise on everything to retain some of everything, you end up with not much of anything. I think the current M3 is possibly one of the best all-around cars ever in terms of power, performance, practicality, styling, and price. I wouldn't trade some of its performance for more amenities myself -- hell, the M3 is already the top of the 3 Series pyramid in terms of luxury and features, compared to the original M3 which was a very stripped DOWN version of the regular series car because it was focused on (what a concept!) track performance.
