5AM

After my first track day last year at Willow Springs, I could never forget how much fun I had. I have been itching to go again ever since but just haven’t pulled the trigger... Until a couple of weeks ago. My friend called me up and wanted to tackle the track for his first time in his 2007 Carrera 4S. So naturally I said I would go with him...Perfect.

Started to look for events close to a time window he gave me, so I chose this one at Willow Springs for a day at Big Willow. A week before the event, I remember thinking I’ll be on the track the following Saturday... Excited and a bit nervous were just a few of the emotions that I felt. As the week went on, all I could think of was the words “Track...Track... Track... Track...” rolling around inside my mind. The night before came, and I set my alarm.

5AM... Slide the alarm. Met up with my friend around 5:30am at a local coffee shop, and used my trunk for the perfect table to hold a cup of coffee and a blueberry scone. As I was eating.. I couldn’t help but think “I wish his 911 had a massive wing to eat off of...” Well after a small bite, we were off to Willow Springs enjoying the sun rise in the distance.

And we arrive after an hour and 20 minute drive...

One of the many vendors on this forum, or the dealer. So one of the many vendors on this forum. Maybe one of them can chime in...

looking good. The 997 looks really dated now that 991 came out doesn't it? It looks very similar to a beatle. lol

Nice pics.

Curious about your impressions on the track...like did you have fun? Did you learn a lot? Did you improve your times during the day? Any issues with the car / oil temps / tires?

Thank you

It's the M Performance Exhaust, most dealers and some vendors on this forum carry it. Check out the exhaust section in the for sale thread.

Thanks guys, he LOVED it. He couldn't stop saying how planted the car felt in the corners. Unfortunately Willow Springs timing was down for the day.. so we couldn't see how we performed, but next time!

Haha yes it does look dated, but the 997 still has a sweet spot for me.. Maybe because the GT3 for the 997 will be the last of the manual GT3s..

The 991 is gorgeous though

I had a blast. Throughout the day my line became crisper, more obvious, plus I kept pushing myself in a few areas. I learned a lot throughout the day on how my car behaved, one example was that I could go faster than I thought in a few corners. It's really a treat to be able to push these cars without restrictions. It was great, the track truly made me fall in love with the M3 all over again. It's a nice feeling to have. The timing was down the whole day so no luck there.. But next time hopefully it'll be fine. The car ran perfectly, might consider getting a track set of wheels soon.

I had a few oversteer moments that I corrected.. and every time, it put a smile on my face. Some "oh shit" moments too, but those were followed by a smile as well.

Nice. The black lip is looking crispy. Just need some black wheels to go with it.
