Forgot to mention this in this thread, but after my last post I was really wondering what it was that made the car so spunky and snappy. Here are my thoughts - I think it's most likely due to the way the power is delivered by the motor, the slightly shorter wheel base (even if it's minimal) and the brakes. The front brakes do the majority of the work on these cars in relation to the rear and certainly more than the average sports car. Those big 6 piston calipers help load the front tires and make the tires bite and turn hard fairly quickly. That's the peppy feeling we feel versus a 3 series feel I think. Just my $.02.

Imho the wheelbase is not a seriously influential factor when driving the Nordschleife. Not if the differences are so marginal. Weight distribution makes a much bigger difference. And the 1Ms balance simply rocks.
The biggest difference between the 1M and the 135i at high speeds is the fact, that the 1Ms front-end actually produces downforce, whereas the 135 produces lift. Same goes for the M3. If it doesn't have flippers / flaps, the front-end produces lift. The difference is actually big enough to feel it. Especially going through the ultra-fast corners such as Flugplatz, Schwedenkreuz, Mutkurve. This additional aerodynamic front-end grip also makes the car feel more nervous. Mine feels very settled, both front and rear. I would assume, that the performance spoiler on the back actually makes a difference and isn't just "looks". As far as the suspension setup goes: I realize what can be adjusted using a three- or four-way damper. But I ask myself, what that has to do with a stock damper? Those aren't three- or four-way adjustable. One setup fits all. To me, the setup is fine for a car that has to work as a daily driver. And the setup works well on the Nordschleife, regardless of what Mr. SportAuto says. Naturally you can make it go faster around the Nordschleife. Naturally you could change the entire suspension setup, but then it'd be even harder to drive in everyday traffic and the car is more than a handful already.

interesting.. I wonder what tires the Z4M coupe was wearing. The stock 225/255 were Conti sportscontact, one of the sh*tty performance tires.
