IMO if you're not able to safely navigate a vehicle into the garage, you're not qualified to be driving in the first place.

Why would anyone want this on there car? Is the population getting that lazy that u cant even pull your damn car into the garage?

As it was mentioned, some people have small garages. It's more of an issue in Europe or Japan than in the US.

BMW is starting to become less the Ultimate Drving Machine and more the Ultimate How Many Variants Can We Make And How Much Useless Crap Can We Stuff In One Machine

this is just the first application of cars being able to drive without user input.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/10/science/10google.html

this has nothing to do with a car parking itself as a true value add

This absolutely has to do with remote self parking as a true value added option/feature. BMW has featured it as such in its latest future technology summary.

Aren´t we in a world wide crisis???,,,,,I thought so !!
Every minute of the day we are bombarded with economic news telling us how bad the situation is,,,,,save money,,,,,don´t over spend,,,,careful with the credit cards,,,,!!
Cars are expensive enough just with the wheels, windows and yes a motor,,,,forget the garage entry gadget !!!

By the way people, don´t generalize about garages in Europe, there are small garages and big garages in Europe, as there are big garages and small ones in the USA!

I guess it's useful for those tight spots in the garage if there is no room to open the door, or if you loaded it in a trailer.

So, was James Bond standing nearby using his cell phone remote control like that in Tomorrow Never Dies?

Cool feature, but once again, adds complexity, weight, and cost to an already bloated platform.

I'm still waiting for the "lap this track as fast as you can" remote function, so I can enjoy watching my BMW in action...and hear the nice exhaust while I'm at it...

Im all for tech advances, but all this does is piss me off. Why?

- it promotes worse drivers with decreased ability of doing the minor things...like parking
- it just adds useless weight to cars...i CAN'T WAIT until the average weight of cars surpasses 3 tons.
