Wifey's new ride..

I haven't had much of a chance to really drive it but when I do I will post up some thoughts. I will say that it is pretty quick but the power comes on very linear and doesn't feel fast until you look at the speedo
It isn't as grounded or raw as the E90 but that is to be expected. I absolutely love the little "sport" switch on the center console that opens up the exhaust valves... music to the ears.

2014 Maserati Ghibli S Q4

I'll see if I can get a little vid posted up before too long.

Don't see those everyday, at least around me. What else were you looking at and what made you chose that over other options of you don't mind?

Its a very nice car. But its also the reason why i don't like Maserati anymore, they are trying to make more affordable. I always liked them because they were kind of rarer cars on the road. I see this model to often now, as its a lot cheaper compared to other models.

Again its a sweet ride. not denying that!

Lol, we'll we don't have a dealership here in New Orleans yet. Although we should within the next year I've heard. I see new 7 series BMWs and S Class Benzs daily though which is what I assume the Maserati competes with.

My wife wanted to see a few different cars. One was the Tesla. I've heard great things about it however the thought of an electric car just doesn't do much for me regardless of how much torque it gets off the line. We never even made it to the Tesla dealership however.

Our first stop was at Jaguar. She likes the F-type however with 2 kids and zero back seat, that car was out of the question. But boy oh boy when that sales rep started the F-type R and revved it, I just about passed out with joy. Anyway she was seriously considering a fully loaded XK vert black on black. It was a nice car and the last 2014 they had so they were really incentivising the hell out of it to try to move it out and we ALMOST pulled the trigger on it but I told her to at least just look at one of her other choices (Ghibli & Model S). We opted to head down to Maserati of Beverly Hills which coincidentally is also McLaren so needless to say there was much eye candy in the shop for me to check out.

Anyway, to make this long story short, she basically fell in love with the Ghibli and that was that.

Yes, they are going to try to push this model as a widespread seller for the brand. There is no denying it. With a base price of 66k it's definitely in the realm of affordability for many people but that's basically without seats or a doors lol. We managed to piece it together with just about everything except the 21" wheels and alcantra steering wheel and headliner which I didn't really think was worth the extra money. At the end of the day it came to 91k. Not exactly cheap. We got that knocked down to 86k I believe and kept the monthly payment to just under 1k which was our goal.

I saw One of those new Maserati one night last month at a gas station. I initially thought "why is the guy parked his Tesla S at a fuel pump?"
After closer look it was Maserati Ghibli.

It's probably as nice as the interior in my extended leather M3 however it's not as nice as the interior in the XK we looked at IMO. It's pretty minimalistic which is good for the buttons etc. but the leather is tight. Could be more supple. Has the redundant "Chrystler" like analog clock sitting in the top middle of the dash when there's a digital one right below it on the nav.

I wouldn't say it feels particularly luxurious inside. It's nice. The alcantra option was nicer but do you really need alcantra on the ceiling? The steering wheel perhaps but not the headliner and pillars.

She opted for the natural wood finish inside which I kind of like as opposed to the ultra high gloss finish in some. Has kind of a porous/unfinished feel to it.

The remote start/stop on the key fob is a nice feature however the key fob itself could easily double as a paper weight. It is ridiculously heavy and larger than the M3 fob. Stupid. That's just Maserati trying to make some sort of pretentious statement.

Thinking of test driving one of these soon. As well as an E63 AMG-S and an Audi RS7. I love the Maserati's looks but I will have to be the judge of how its V6 sounds...

In all honesty, from inside the cabin even with the sport button engaged, it's a tame sound except between shifts.

Now from outside the car, as in following with my windows down in the M3, it sounds pretty damn good under load.

Upon startup it sounds decent as well. Mean. But not in a boy racer STI way.
