EVO: M3 E90 vs C63 Performance Package
Indeed, both cars successfully balance hardcore horsepower with a tastefull palette of home comforts. As modern Teutonic interpretations of the classic American muscle car, they make the case. If what you crave in your four-door saloon, for instance, is colossal perfrormance delivered with the demeanour of an insouciant dragster, the C63 is almost certainly what you are looking for.
The depth of the M3's talent, however, is telling. For point-to-point pace it easily matches the Merc but, more than that, it feels special doing it - accurate, agile, finely balanced, biddable - where the Merc is merely accomplished. In short, the M3 saloon is sharper, cuts deeper and will keep you hooked for longer. Bedford laptimes: BMW M3: 1:26,2 Merc C63: 1:28,8 |

I really love that last line:

from the press material....wonder how the stiffer suspension rides.
"AMG Performance Package Designed for the Race Track For even crisper handling, the AMG performance package includes a limited-slip differential, stiffer suspension, composite (two-piece) perforated and ventilated front disc brakes and an AMG performance steering wheel wrapped in nappa leather. The AMG performance package was designed for owners who are serious about competing on the race track with their C63 AMG." |

I have an 09 C63 without the PP and it rides well. I love the suspension. Even my wife doesn't complain. It's firm but planted.

Also, US cars are now coming with the "Full" P30 AMG Performance package if you order/want it. OT but I'm happy with my non-P30 car. I don't doubt the M3 feels more balanced at the edge and is quicker around a track. But (repeating myself) there are many cars that are better/more suited on a track than either of these IMO....

I have pulled the trigger on an '09 C63 with 030 PP. Should be the best of both worlds having it lined up on my garage next to my M-DCT M3.
After having used my 05 ZCP M3 as a daily driver for about a year I have no concerns about a C63 with PP being too stiff |

I now have a '08 MT M3 and parked right next to it in my garage a '09 C63 just joined it. Two totally different cars. In my opinion the only thing they share in common is a similar price. Both are great.

I am sure this C63 had the full package which included the LSD and the stiffer suspension.
Was a little surprised to see the M3 commanding such a difference given that the stock C63 wasn't much slower in previous tests but there you go. What this proves is in the right hands the M3 is still king, though I bet most here will post identical times in either car so close is their performance and so high is their levels of grip. Meaning you will run out of balls before the car will give up the ghost. |
