I love MDM. Other day I took a left turn too hard at a green arrow and my backend came out, I countersteered but I believe MDM did help in the process

On 95% of turns I take hard I enjoy MDM, but accelerating full throttle at red line with MDM on, especially shifting to 2nd gear leaves some room for improvement. It cuts power sometimes almost as violently as if DSC was on 100%.

Proper traction control realy is a fine art. MDM (or whatever you want to call a proper traction control that allows some leeway) leaves lots of room for improvement in the M3.

How come we havent seen any aftermarket software improvements in the traction control field I wonder...

As most on here are ///M enthusiests...the MDM is basically what the E46 Competition Package came with, the M Track Mode but now a standard setting on our E9x M3s. So it's basic design format was a TRACK specific setting, though you can use it any time. So that is why you guys who do not necessarily like this setting are finding it useless on the streets/city driving.

Hmm. Not sure. It does seem to be over assisted on the traction control for real track use. I would imagine the E46 comp pack was a bit less intrusive (I would hope at least).

Please explain MDM's useless on the street??? I'm really interesting in understanding. Just because the OP turned out to be an asshole doesn't mean someone can't make some sense of it.

I consider MDM an extra margin in the event like the one where I came around a clover leaf at 70 mph only to find the whole surface covered with slick as snot diesel fuel. Full DSC is too restrictive for even moderately brisk street driving, but MDM doesn't interfere much at all, but gives an extra safety margin when you meet a surprise in the street.

MDM doesn't make the car faster, it just makes it safer. What are people expecting that it's not doing?

Are you trying to say that you are going to drive with DSC ON from now on, while your EDC and Power settings are currently set to Sport and Sport Plus respectively, and will remain that way?
As everyone else said, don't see the relevance of the Power and EDC to DSC setting. The only notable exception is if you use Sport Plus or mash the throttle with MDM on it will bog you down, but full DSC on will do it even more.

I know using Power in Sport or Sport Plus is fun, but Power left in Normal with MDM on or DSC off is way more controllable, and you won't be slower once you get used to the throttle response.

MDM is great. when it intervenes it's not intrusive.

I would have thought that in full throttle acceleration MDM will give faster acceleration in situations [1] where with full DSC the ECU would soften the power delivery as it senses the onset of wheelspin.
[1] Uneven surface, low friction surface etc.

Anyone have any idea the effects of different tire sizes (like wider in the rear) and lowering would do to the effectiveness of MDM and ultimately DSC?
