Cayman Club Sport

Stuttgart 26.6.2010
"Porsche has officially given the green light to a new lightweight Cayman model variant due to debut for the 2012 model year. The Cayman CS (Club Sport) will be shown at the Los Angeles auto show later this year and go on sale in 2011 as a 2012 model. The CS will receive some of the same treatment given to the recent Boxster Spyder such as lighter weight components, fabric door pulls, and a uniquely styled set of lightweight wheels modeled after those on the GT2 RS. Recent press reports indicated that this new variant was shown to Sales Managers in US and Europe at recent internal Porsche meetings and given the positive response from their dealership network Porsche has chosen to move forward with production."

333hp 3.4L engine
Sport PASM suspension - 20mm lower than stock ride height
A/C and stereo are optional
184 lbs lighter than stock Cayman S
Aluminum doors, fabric door pulls
Lightweight hatch, optional Lexan window
19" lightweight wheels
Sport bucket seats
Re-valved steering assist
Locking rear differential standard
Up-rated brakes (optional)
Re-stylized front fascia
Rear diffuser
Fixed ducktail-style rear spoiler

Awesome!

Now, why can't BMW bring a Club Sport variant with all the track pack goodies to the US?!

That is going to be an awesome car.

If the press and whatnot described the new Spyder as the best handling factory P yet then this croc on a diet should certainly take that claim away.

Cost guesstimate?

Well, a Cayman S with: 19" wheels, sports bucket seats, PASM and LSD comes in at $70,290. I'm going to guess this car will be at least $75k to start.

E46 M3 power with less than 2900lbs to pull around should be interesting.

Don't be surprised if that's more or less what the next gen M3 will be. Light weight and no 8.

Will it canibalize Spyder sales?

I just hope the next Cayman is more aesthetically pleasing.

The spyder isn't exactly a high volume car, so I doubt it.
