Code "441 Smoker's package"

Assuming this means ashtray and lighter?? Can it be deleted? If it is deleted, what goes in its place (in the car)?

If you delete the smokers package you will not have any cigaret-lighter-outlet where you can withdraw power for your laserwarner. What it is replaced with is a coin holder if I remember correctly, a little box where you can put parking money in.

correct, you have to buy a little plastic coin holder thing that goes in place of the ashtray. I think we've sold it to one guy.

Right on top of it!
I thought I had remembered you telling me that. Wasn't it some crazy price like $400?

I've no idea. I live in Europe where it's a no cost option.

And you still have the power socket in the armrest.

On the E46 M3, smokers package was standard in the US. With the "non-smokers kit" only the ashtray itself (front and rear) were replaced. The cigarette lighter stays. The cost was $20 front and $32 rear in 2002. Bet it's similar on the E92.
It would be great if a non-smoker's setup was standard. I'm sure less than 50% of buyers smoke; why isn't that setup optional instead of standard? I would never let anyone smoke or eat in my car.

Damn - be nice if you could opt out of the ashtray but maintain the 12v source for laser / iPhone etc recharge.

It's not a big problem. You have a 12v source in the armrest and I have on my 335 Coupe added an extension cord under the floormatt so I can connect my Garmin Nav-system.

I'm sure the ipod Y cable would take care of that. Isn't there a usb port in the armrest?

Part of the Technology Package is a new wireless recharge for iPods and cell phones via an infrared window in the iDrive display. This was worked out through a technology agreement between BMW, Apple, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and Nokia...

Should be practical on a wider basis soon.

"A different contactless system for charging batteries is an infrared charging system employing a light source as a transmitter and a photocell as a receiver. Energy is transferred from the source to the receiving photocell via light rather than through a magnetic field."
