Shift Lights

'09 clamtop, MDCT, 31.2 via factory, 4 days old.
Can't find a good answer on prior threads.

Do shift lights become active only after 1200mi. service?

Have set them on via iDrive and column lever, revved, and see zotz.

I know we have to keep cool for a while but....

Remember that they only light up at the MAXIMUM rpm for a given gear in S mode, which you probably are not reaching frequently if you are following break in period recc. regarding not exceeding 5500 rpms. If you really just want to see it for kicks, give it a lot of throttle and then don't shift until you see it start to light up. It may go past 5500, but once or twice will not hurt it (as per the head tech at my dealer) as long as you don't make a habit of it. They should start to light up. Hope that works.

you activate shift lights via the turn signal when the car is on. Not sure if they show up when you rev but you always have shift lights, its just a matter of turning them on.

And read your manual!!!

I agree. Didn't see the 4 day old part. I would wait a little longer to be on the safe side.

I've been doing it via I-Drive.
This sounds like a cool shortcut though...can you give me more details on how it works?
Thanks

You should try to forget the shift lights until after the 1,200 mile break in period if you value your new car.

+1 Wait until you've done your first service. The shift light is there and it will not go away.
