Dinan mid-pipe comes out this week

Just called Dinan about some questions on their flash and exhaust and they mentioned they are releasing their mid-pipe this week. It eliminates the 4 stock cats for 2 hi flow cats, btw didn't ask if it's an x-pipe design. It does however require a Dinan flash to kill the CEL. They say it will provide 25hp and will cost $2200. They also mentioned a pulley will be available in the next few weeks for $500.

Cheers

I'm wondering if that's $2200 with the flash or without. Ah hell, why am I even asking...

I'm sure that would be without flash given other brands costs around that price for just the cats and pipes...

The AA X-pipe is $2k so the Dinan is $200 more. Sounds about right to me. Guess what, the AA does NOT include a flash either!

I guess they're not 50 state legal anymore.

You are correct. The flash is not included. One thing I'm unsure of is if you have a Dinan flash and at some later point you buy the mid-pipe, what are the costs?

Cheers

I don't think the AA pipe includes cats for $2k, either. IIRC the cats raise the price to $3,000

If it comes out, I just may get it + flash + pulley.

This is Dinan's official statement about the forthcoming X-pipe for the M3...

Dinan will be making a middle racing exhaust system for the M3 similar to the one we manufacture for the M5 and M6.

This racing exhaust will remove the second stage or rear catalyst. Removing the rear catalysts with a high performance middle exhaust section while still illegal is a lot more practical.

First off, the middle exhaust system cost about ½ to 1/3 the cost of a header. The labor is also much less to install the middle exhaust section. The car will still pass a smog test at the tailpipe and there are no faults set or readiness issues to deal with when you get a smog test either. This is an ideal system for a showroom stock race car, where the car must pass a smog test at the end of a race and cannot have a check engine light on.

The gain about half of the front cat or 10 hp, but there is no hassle and it is a lot less money. On Dinan’s middle exhaust system we also include different noise level resonators so you can get the sound you are looking for from your car.

Sounds like it is going to retain the stock primary cats...

Do you have an aftermarket exhaust? I may hold off on the x-pipe to see what an Eisenmann Race would sound like with the Dinan midpipe

pretty impressive numbers if its true, 25hp...the same pipe from Dinan on the M5 only free's up about 9hp. Just goes to show how bottled up the little 4.0L really is!!

Its a good deal for the money I would say, pipe + CEL flash + high flow cats for $2200 USD. If its true and they are putting in high flow cats vs simple resonators, this system should still be classified smog legal and not stuck in the 'racing only' category.

One thing I am wondering about, if secondary cats are not monitored by the ECU, what causes a CEL when they are removed?

It's going to be closer to 10hp, I got my info straight from the Dinan tech guys. I'm sure the OP was talking to one of Dinan's sales guys if he was told 25 HP.

No X-pipe alone will net you 25 HP on the S65 engine...even with a performance software flash.

Read my earlier post for a more accurate description of how the Dinan X-pipe will be built.

It sounds like Dinan is coming back strong with E9X M3.

Hmmm I'm about to pull the trigger on a full Akrapovic system - but I know Dinan pays attention to details like sound etc and I'll bet this product won't cause the drone that you get with the AA down pipe...still think I'll go the Akrapovic route though...

Just 10 HP Would have been nice to see 25 RWHHP

That is what I'm looking at too but ESS told me that with the exhaust and tune I would be looking at around 30 HP 135i responds better to tunes than this M3 does but it would have been nice had this M3 responded to tunes as good as the 135i did or even a Z06 did

My goal is to gain 50 RWHP from my tunes to my M3.

I think 40WHP should be obtainable - there are others on here that have gotten between 40-50WHP with down pipe, ECU remap, filter and pulley....
