M5 V10 noisy when cold, V8 M3 the same?

I am looking for a M3 and i have heard the V10 M5 when cold and its not a comforting sound, but i have never heard an V8 M3 (cold or otherwise) engine sound. Are the noisy when cold and how should it sound when at operating temp?

The cold start sounds pretty bad ass to me. Reminds me of my first mustang which got me addicted to HP.

If you buy a tune from ESS your car will have the cold start option. It's VERY quiet at cold start!

I like to make sure that my neighbors know exactly when I decide to leave my house in the morning, so I am definitely a fan of the cold start

It sounds a bit rough with the metallic taps and clicks for about half a minute. I enjoy the sound as well, and I prefer it over the diesel like sound of the E60 M5.

It can sound bad if you don't know better. I remember a buddy of mine making a face and asking "is it supposed to sound like that?".

I don't get why some folks removes the cold start. It's a constant reminder we have a beast that lives in our car...

Can someone explain why it sounds like this in the morning and why it can't sound like this all the time?

The noise is referenced in the owners manual as a metallic sound. I always liked Metallica! This is how it sounds when warmed up "VVVRRRROOOOOOOOMMMMMMM" !
