I remember that I read it in one BMW publications that the average age of an M3 driver/owner is mid 40's.

The problem with this question is it is posted on a message board. In general, the older population does not post as much as the younger population.

At the M drive event in VA last month I looked like the youngest (40). Everyone else was in the late 40 - mid 60 range.

The payment on a 70K car is a big nut to crack. Most 20 - 30 year olds can't handle it.

I had the Vette. Now I need a 4 door for the Kid.

Occupation: Corporate Controller, CPA.

I am retired Navy and we are retired business owners. Agree on Vetts...., I could afford one, but not the gold chains.
My mistake, I should clarify. I never meant that all senior drivers are mid-life crisises. There is a difference.

maybe 18-20 considering they are still probably in college until 22 years old or so... but im 25 and someone above me was 22 and I would be willing to bet that he (like myself) pays for their own car.

so having said that - im 25. i work for a rather large bank and write mortgages for their corporate center.

agreed. 18-21 is likely a purchase by parents as the person is probably still in school unless they went to a 2 year college. 22-23 is probably when people are getting into career jobs of their own and beginning to make money they can actually buy things of substance with.

I would argue that the majority of the population cant or choose not to handle the payment on a 70k car. I dont think that the age is as much a factor as you might think because I am 25 - right in the middle of the range you said cant handle it - and actually am paying off at an accelerated rate beyond what is expected of my monthly payment as I dislike debt in general. I do the same on the house I have owned since I was 23. Maybe I am not the norm, however, this car is not a car the normal person would choose to buy either and those that look to are usually aware of the expense involved.
