I should be there both days.

Humm, have to put my race pads back on the car ( luckily flushed the brakes when I took them off). I might become lazy and leave them on for the summer ( last year I took them on and off like 8 times).

You can give me a whoopin'...I will be wearing gloves though...

I think we'll be in the same group, so I could film you at some point if you wish.

Oh no, I drive much better in my imagination than in real life.
Don't show me what I look like....

Running in the advanced group to make it easier for others to kick
my butt around the track.

Sorry, not this time.
If you sign up for both of those, the SCDA, & David Murray, you can do 7 days in a row at NJMP

Hey we have a pretty extensive group of people going to these track events in the NE. It'd be cool if you guys joined in on some of the group events and track outings, esp to NJMP.

Hey, I think we crossed paths briefly today in the advanced group I drive the blue 335i.

The group was so spaced apart that I don't think I saw you (and a bunch of other group members) on the track for the rest of the day. Really good weather and great event. This past weekend at Lightning was torture due to temps.

I was there. White Coupe.

There were a few M3s actually. Blue ESS 535 Kit, Black ESS 600 Kit. A different black M3 looked stock, then a few E46s.

Yeah - I was the lone E90 M3 with no friends by the garages! LOL! I was staying in the suites and had unpacked before I saw you guys.

I hope you guys had fun, I watched a couple of your sessions.

The blue E92 ESS 535 was "arter". We were in the same group, but he disappeared into the distance once we got going!

I have a couple of films to post when I get around to editing later tonight!

That's cause I cheat with better tires and more horsepower than you

Hope your NT-05's get upgraded soon. Although, when I switched back to my street tires, it did make Thunderbolt even more fun ( I think the corner worker in the "octopus" thought I was in a drifting contest ).

Yah, you were good. Sorry I didn't come over to talk to you. You could have come over to the BMW row to park ( we wouldn't let LiM3y in because we have standards to keep). The novices could have shown you how to use up a whole roll of tape to cover your car I ( told them if you buy black wheels you never have to clean them....)

I've never seen so much tape applied on a car, especially on that 1M! The blue tape on orange contrast was quite striking :-)

I parked on the far side on purpose as I was..."working from home" that day. First trackside attempt and it actually worked pretty well, the conference calls were a bit challenging but email was fine, compliments of NJMP's public wifi. Apologies, I should have come over to say hi at least.

I think I started behind you at one of the sessions but you're quite fast, I think I lost you after a few laps. I'll review the video clips over the next couple of days and post something up.

Hope to see you guys at the track soon!

LiM3y Vids

Folks,

What you've all been waiting for.... I had issues with HLT and memory clearing! I also got a phone call in the middle of a session that messed up the film!

There was also the remains of the Porsche Driving School...30 Porsches lined up. What's that, over $3MM of cars?

Lightning on Monday:
I couldn't quite get going on Monday, but this is the third session. I kept chirping my tires on downshifts. In the last session, I fixed the heel-toe thing - if you are standing on the brakes, it is easy to keep a constant pedal pressure! Arter was here too, but I made sure there is no footage of him passing me! I am running 5-6 seconds/lap faster than two years ago with the same set up, so that's encouraging. I am not sure whether this was because I was wearing driving gloves or not.

Thunderbolt on Tuesday:
This was a better day. I got the heel-toe working without unsettling the car under braking. This is the last session when I ran in Intermediate 1 to gain an hour on packing up and leaving. The group was small, and being the gentleman driver that I am, it was cool. It was interesting to see how much pace I have gained over the last couple of years by running in Advanced...and Von Zoom's coaching...and cool driving gloves. In session 2, I did a lead follow with an instructor, which was the first time I had done that. He was in a Miata, so there were handling/line/power differences...
I got a top tip for the Octopus...which I don't know how broadly known it is, but the curbing on the inside of the Octupus is ribbed. If you run your inside/left wheels right on it, they "hook up" (you feel it!), you get bonus grip and it quite literally pulls you around the corner and significantly reduces power understeer as you squeeze the throttle going uphill. I also found that feeding the wheel around and keep your hands at 9-3, rather than turning to "12-6" and hanging on, is much more comfortable affording a lighter grip and more feel. You can see me trying to figure this out in the film [Don't tell Arter this, it is my new speed secret for next time]

It looks like you had a lot of fun. I see a lot of M3s attended this event. Arter told me there was ESS 625 supercharged M3. How was he ? Really fast on the backstraight? I am actually interested in ESS600 kit for my m3.
Rob, i see you were wearing gloves. In this case, i am glad i wasnt there lol. Joking aside, i was supposed to be there with my 135i, but couldnt make it due to the heavy understeering issues, since i got R6 hoosiers. My car is limited to `2.8 negative camber and i was told that i will need `3.5 for R6.
Catch you next time guys

Thanks for the vids. Not familar with the tracks, but it appears you are running a good line, and noting your steering input, doing it smoothly. Assume the track(s) are basically a 3rd and 4th gear track, or 4th and 5th? Good on you mate for the gloves. And as an aside, remember to close your face shield so you do not injest a bug.

Wish I had the franchise on blue tape at the event.

As a benchmark, one of the SCDA team is Elivan Goulart who ran an Audi R8 at NJMP in the Rolex GT class. He said that they are doing the last corner before the front straight on Thunderbolt at 125 with a flat throttle.

[Also, a base Audi R8 race car costs 500K - the lugnuts cost $1000 alone!]

that blue tape still hurts my eyes

Here's a quick clip from session 2, that Miata seemed determined to not let me come close and well, you'll see what happened

He flat spotted his tire, then he hit the flat spot again under braking at the corner he went off. I was doing a lead-follow with the red-white-and-blue Miata with an instructor in it, who rented the blue Miata that went off. He was black flagged to come in and swap the tire! LOL!

The slow red Porsche drove everyone nuts for both days. She was in the wrong run group...her hubby was instructing I think. It was even worse at Lightning!
