Brembo Caliper on stock rotor

hey captain do you have part numbers for the GTS rotors? I didn't think you would be able to get those if you didn't have a gts or crt. Kind of like getting CSL parts you needed a vin

If a caliper is the same for multiple kits, it doesn't mean its exactly the same. I know ST uses different sized pistons depending on the application. So what might look like the same ST40 caliper for 2 application, the piston sizes could be different which might creates some unintended effects. The car will stop and I would imagine be very safe, just won't be optimized.

Not sure if Brembo or other companies tune their piston sizes for each car.

The swept area for the Brembo pad is around 52mm, the oem M3 rotors are about 64mm. Those brakes are going to look odd with a 1/2" rusty ridge around them.

If anyone doesn't want to drop the cash into a full Brembo kit, why don't you look into the oem Brembo/rotor setup that's fitted as an option to the new model 335

There is a few more issues one may run into when trying to install the Brembo, stop tech, AP or any other aftermarket 4 or 6 pistons on the the stock M3 rotors...

First, keep in mind that the OEM rotors are only offered in drilled so the inherent weakness of the stock discs will always be a problem.

Second, as far as heat capacity is concerned, aftermarket BBK rotors are lighter, but the larger diameter means greatly increased surface area which is the most helpful to shed heat mid-stop. The thicker plates used in the larger aftermarket rotors also helps to reduce the effects of temperature spikes by lengthening heating and cooling times for reduced thermal loading which helps to prevent cracking.

Third and most importantly, the main issue that can be expected with installing Brembo or other aftermarket BBK style calipers on a stock disc are possible wheel fitment issues. Most BBK manufactures pull everything as far inward as possible and often have a deeper offset in the hat than the OEM parts. Aftermarket BBK style caliper on an OEM rotor will sit further out toward the wheel spokes than the BBK. In addition, there will be issues relate to the pad contact area and possible pad overhang/underhand due to the different pad annulus used on aftermarket BBK kits compared to OEM.

The spindles are different.

F30 calipers will not mount to the E9x M3 spindles directly.

We are currently doing road and track testing with the F30 calipers on E9x 335i's.

+1 a better question is why?..the greatest benefit of a BBK is the rotor..more so than a multi-pot caliper

Still working on this with Brembo. There are a lot of details to work on, especially on bracket design since the Brembo's are radial mount and the factory spindles are not. The design of the bracket is somewhat more complicated than anticipated due to the factory rotor size paired to the large Brembo caliper.

In that case why not use Rotoras..not sure if they make an e9x M application..I know they make e9x non-M calipers that fit their stock rotors

Just to let you guys know Rotora does make a Caliper upgrade kit for the E9X. I found this out the other day. Personally I ended up purchasing a full kit. I now have the new Super Challenge system on order. Anyway here is the product catalog that shows Rotora's caliper upgrade kit. ALSO For those interested in the super challenge setup or the carbon super challenge it is not on this pdf I have attached. I will be doing a review of the Super Challenge kit once I install mine.
