OP - I'm garaged 5 nights a week at home. The other two always give me the shakes. My neighborhood? Beverly Hills. |

I think that a car cover will just encourage some passing drunk teenagers to think "hmmm, wonder what's hidden under there..."...lifts cover... "Oh cool, look, it's an M3! It's probably that same guy that owned the 335 we stole the badges from! Wouldn't it be funny if we did it again?! Kyuk, Kyuk...!!!" Just kidding. Kind of. You can get covers from California Car Covers. It'll be custom fit to your car. I have one. It came with a cable and lock (kinda puny one, but I'm sure you could get a stronger one) to secure it in place. It should work for all but the most determined little drunk turds that pass you by. I believe I paid like $200 for mine? |

In my experience it has worked well, I have a custom fit cover, tied down and locked with a cable. Most people who may want to look will just give up when they find they can't lift it up.
Of course none of this really matters. If someone wants to mess with your car, they will. I am happy to finally have secured a garage for next winter, so not my problem any longer |

That is a good idea and there is one sold by BMW that fits the M3 like a glove.
This is a narrow minded thing to say. I'm not referring to your opinion which you're entitled to but your generalization. If it is not safe in Phily does not mean it isn't anywhere. Yes, I've read the rest of the thread. Kscarrol is right on point. |

car cover works well if car is parked in suburban or residential area streets or dead end or locked gate complex that do not see a lot of transit pedestrian traffic except from neighbors. |

Trust me. Back in the day I have had my fair share of cares broken into but I won't let others dictate what I own irregardless of where I live or can park. I guess to each his own.
My car is sitting outside right now, and so is my neighbors new 991. Shit That thing stays outside 24/7 |

Trust me when I say that no one cares for cars or takes pride in their car as much as I do. You can eat off every surface at all times. I love cars, more than most. I know what it's like. But it's still a car. Sure I park it miles away when at stores or out to eat cause others don't care, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that if I didn't have a garage I wouldn't own it. My e46 was the same way. That one even sat on the street every day!!! |

If possible, park near a lot of windows. This would deter a would be vandal.
Cameras are also another great deterrent. |

OP - I do not think there is a magic bullet. Use an alarm, keep a good sealant on the paint to protect the finish from weather damage, and then just roll with the punches.

I see all sides. Life is short. There's a chance you may be struck by a car crossing the street. Do you stay on the sidewalk forever? |

Too expensive a car to expose it to the damaging effects of humans and the weather. I used to have a cheap sports car that I loved dearly, I was always worried about weather damage associated with it including sun damage and the biggest worry to me...hail damage. I had an expensive car cover too, but nothing can protect it from hail damage. Everytime, it rained when it was cold, I shiz myself thinking I was going to come out to a car with dents all over it....I could not imagine a 50 to 75k car, especially a M3 in the elements. |

You guys do what you like with your M3's and I will do whatever I like with mine...that's why they've made so many. I will continue to err on the side of caution like I've done my entire life...and life is good. My risks are calculated as much as they can be and largely controlled by me. Leaving a "douchebag" car out constantly is a choice I don't care to make but you guys do with YOUR M3 whatever you wish. You have my blessing. Seacrest out...

It's true...nice cars everywhere, just not nice neighborhoods and homes. Besides, I have no idea where the OP loves so just half joking/assuming he lives in the ghetto.

What I'm saying is that a camera won't physically stop anything from happening. Much like how insurance helps with the financial situation afterwards but it doesn't stop the accident from happening
