Macht Schnell Stage 2 Crappy build quality..

Seriously i saw this today and was pissed off..

So here's the story. ever since i installed my ms intake it has fallen off maybe 4 times in 2 weeks? but after that i managed to make it work fine for about 1-2 months.

Today i heard my engine sound really nice and i knew it had fallen off again.. so i checked and sure enough it fell off.. but this time the pcv valve that was glued on came off with it as well.

So, i had no choice but to reinstall my stock intake and thats when i got pissed off...

for some reason the part where the MS intake meets the pipe had seemd to have melted and the shape of it is off.. so Theres a HUGE gaping hole between where the bottom of the filter is.

Im so annoyed at this... nothing i can really do is there.. but dammit man... cant imagine how much crap has went in to my engine unfiltered because of that retarded gap... i guess it was lucky for me that my pcv valve fell off... if not i would have just reinstalled the thing and wouldn't have seen that huge hole..

JUST A WARNING TO ALL WHO WANTS TO BUY MS STG2. im not the only one with problems.. i just wished i saw everyones problems and decided not to buy it. here are some pics to show you what i mean

This last pic i put my finger in the gap. for ms owners u know that part is solid plastic so its impossible for me to pull it like that.

Update: 5/2/2013

i knew something would happen eventually. my pistons have holes on the top now and engine block is scratched. guaranteed its from this! running for dont know how long with a huge gaping hole from the intake pipe.. worst decision ever..

Pictures coming up soon.

Wow this is about the 5th time I've heard of someone having issues with the kit. I had issues with the charge pipe consistently popping off the intake plenum but after multiple adjustments it finally stayed. Hopefully nothing like this happens down the road....

You're right and I think this is the 2nd thread discussing a broken intake in the past 1-2 weeks! OP - sorry to hear, and see, your intake issues

Thanks for the information. I hope MS offers to make this situation right by doing something beyond just replacing the intake.

I will certainly be avoiding MS products.

Sorry to hear about this. I've had mine for a couple months sitting in a box waiting for the car to arrive. This is not good news.

That is a very early version, the later/current versions (V2) have a screw-type PCV.

OP, please email me directly (if purchased from us) and I will have this exchanged for you immediately.

Good to hear. Sucks that there are no power gains from AFE's intake (dyno proven).

OP, good luck and sorry about your troubles!

I think this says a lot about the piss poor company called MS. Its not as if an air intake is some new technology even though our m3's are relatively new. They have been around in basically the same design for decades for tons of models of cars and this design for the m3 is nothing special that is not found on a million other designs for other cars. Its a simple coupling procedue and a plastic pipe. There is NO excuse to have this type of failure with the product. It shows how cheap they go with their materials or just how absolutely poor their designers are. Either way a company nowadays that cannot make a plastic intake tube fit and not break, should not even be in this business.

That is not true either...KitW dyno'd and got 6rwhp peak and up to 8rwhp in the midrange..do a search. That dyno that AFE did was jacked from the get go. You are talking about EAS promoting their MS part and using a magazine article that used AFEs own messed up dyno. That car dyno'd stock at around 255rwhp I think...you don't think that something was amiss?

Here is his dyno...also note the AF ratio was a tad richer with the intake..with some adaption (to lean it out a tad more) could have resulted in more hp to be had.

Either way the MS or the AFE are going to be worth the same amount...you can't keep reinventing the wheel.

Dave

Did you just change the pcv, or were changes made to the portion the filter attaches to as well?

Thanks but i bought this in singapore from Boss Motorsports.. not sure what i can do.. would love a refund but no way im installing another one of these...

if it wasnt for the pcv valve falling off i wouldn't have seen that hole there and cannot imagine how much damage it has done and would have done to the engine..

If the V1 design was so bad why wasn't there a recall of all V1s and replacement V2s sent out? Stating something like "you have an old version, we know it's a bad design because we've released a new one but can only help you if it was purchased directly from us" after a part fails is unacceptable - doesn't EAS/Tom own MS? I was thinking about purchasing a MS stage2 intake, however, after seeing several recent intake failures, regardless of whether it's because of an old design, I'm definitely not purchasing one now.

Good luck OP and I hope no other damage was done.

I recently started a thread about the EXACT same issues. Namely, the intake charge pipe kept popping off and the crappy adapter for the PCV valve fell off. I agree 100% with the posters above. Exceptionally shitty company with awful quality control.

I was also told that I would need a receipt in order to obtain "version 2" of the intake charge pipe with the threaded PCV valve. Why would I need a receipt to exchange a component that was clearly poorly designed and, in effect, replaced by a newer component? Want me to prove that I bought the intake? Not a problem, give me a mailing address and I'll ship you this piece of shit. How's that for evidence?

Nevermind the fact that the main issue for me was all the unfiltered air getting sucked into my engine because of the intake charge pipe falling off. Unlike the OEM design, the "engineers" at MS seem incapable of designing a larger bore charge pipe that retains the flexibility and accordion-type connectors as the OEM system. Instead, you get a rigid piece of plastic with two inch-wide rubber seals at either end -- and this is the case in version 1 and 2. There is no way that design has enough give to remain connected when the engine is under dynamic load and shifting around.

I will never buy another MS product again. Incompetence is too kind a word for their product design.

To the OP, you can keep the MS filter in place and just use the stock intake charge pipe. It works well.

Actually, I see now that the OP had their stage 2 fail at the joint with the filter whereas mine failed at the joint with the engine. Exchanging the intake charge pipe is obviously then not going to fix your problem. I say go back to stock...not worth risking engine damage! Good luck.

Eurotuner dyno tested the AFE intake and the AFE exhaust and gained no power from either. You can read all about it here:
