iphone photo warning

Just an FYI if found out last week

If you are posting pictures you took with your Iphone it will have the location you took the pictures imbedded into them. So if you take a picture in front of your house everyone can figure out your adress in about 2 minutes.

I don't think this is a big deal, but you should be aware of this.

I had never done this before but I just looked up a fellow M3poster in my town who posted pics here and figured out his adres within about 2 minutes, zoomed in on google maps street view and it matched the picture. This was both very cool and very creepy at the same time. I had never thought twice to posting to here or face book before.

Does anyone know how to strip the info before posting? I know you can turn it off, but is there a way to strip it if it is there already?

Almost all devices use geo-tagging now. It is a really cool feature for consumer items, but given people desire to constantly show their "Friends" everything that is going on with them, its pretty much become a way for creepers to stalk others.

You best bet is to remove all meta-data from files before posting them online. There are many tools for this and google is your friend.

You want to remove exif data (plenty of free applications) and turn off geo-location tagging on your iPhone

Settings -> General -> Location Services. You can turn it off for the Camera app.

The app actually asks if it can use your location the first time you launch it. Most people never read anything and just hit "okay". It's almost always user error.

Not trying to stalk you, just board at work and was curious if I could do it.
If I am not working I may try to go to the cars and coffee on Saturday morning
